If you mean actual POSITION, then I'm going with pitcher... but if you take into account the fact that individual pitchers are only going to pitch once every few games then automatically that can no longer be the answer.

Ya, the starting QB is the single most important player, but pitcher is the most important position (filled by multiple players)

look at the jets, raiders, jags who never had a good qb........then look at peyton manning going to the broncos

I think it goes

QB
Catcher

The breh above made a really good point about baseball being played in series. The game makes a lot more sense if you look at a Fri, Sat, Sun series as one match or game.

The fact that pitchers don't play every game and don't even play the whole game all the time does take them down a notch.

I'd say:

1. Basketball superstar (position really doesn't matter)
2. QB
3. Pitcher

Now that steroids are mostly out of baseball, pitchers have become kinda less important as well. Nobody can hit, really so damn near every team has "good" pitching

As far as one game, it's clearly the pitcher. However since starting pitchers only play 30 or so games, the QB is the guy for a whole season.
QB.

Pitcher can only win 1 game. And 1 game don't mean shyt. Meaningful baseball is played in series.

Meaningful games in football have 60 minutes. That's it. And the NFL is a QB league.

The problem here is you guys are referring to the player and not the position. A pitcher is still used in every baseball although it's not the same player

If we're going by that, Imma change my answer to a franchise center. A superstar center(Dream; Shaq, etc) anchors your defense, commands double teams, and gives you a go to scoring option.

Imo, that would be the better way to look at it. Given the best player for the position suitable on any given game...I know nikkas don't watch hockey/soccer but where would the goalie fit in on this?
