But didn’t Jay make music with Juvie , Master P & UGK in the mid to late 90’s? That was southern fans introduction to his music.

Thats more so Jay being strategic than the other way around. Its been reported Bird aint even kno who Jay was during the Ha remix era.

They had to break the idea to him like "He is this dope rapper from Up north"

Regionalism existed, breaking news :russell:

Jay, just like every other rapper, wasn't on the radar outside of his region until those mainstream hits start dropping

Hard knock life

That type of shyt, Big Pimpin was the only Collab out of the 3 you mentioned that fit the bill

Gucci? Trick Daddy? These dudes could barely open a Jay-z show except in their own cities.

As far as Juve and P goes, I mean they nearly did the same units as Jay in the US. So that’s not a hot take.

One thing I’ll never get is why a someone from Atlanta thinks his friends in his hood defines more than half of the black population in the US and about half of the country :snoop:

The south is not one hood, people in TX, Virginia, Mobile, Oklahoma and Jacksonville are not the same. But anytime it’s some take about about what the south does, people talk like it’s some project with 3k people.

People wonder why the state of (rap) music discourse, media and journalism is in the toilet when 80% of hip-hop conversations are about sales, beef, if people in Tuscaloosa ever heard Illmatic or who was "hotter" in 99.

Then wonder why its mostly white people writing about and reviewing albums on a musical level and running media circles
