Tyson about to start his stand up tour of the UK. I know the because I heard it advertised on national radio last night. He didnt even introduce himself, just started talking...

Has anyone ever heard Jordan speak outside the US? If Nike ever had the temerity to sponsor him for a world tour he'd have to run through his CV like a high school grad at an open evening :mjpls:

Because boxing has fallen off the mainstream so hard the past few decades younger people might not realize how big a deal being the fukking heavyweight champion of the world was..

This wasnt a team sport this was a dude alone at the top and the most prestigious indivdual; sports award it didnt get much bigger.

People would get together for a Tyson fight and the anticpation was amazing even though you knew he was probably gonna knock a guy out within a round or two,the energy when he came to the ring and presence he had was soemthing i cant even explain.

How are we judging popularity though? And when are we saying MJ& Mike Tyson's "peaks" were. It's alotta nikkaz talkin just to talk and providing irrelevant boxing statistics to try & prove a point, but nobody is really trying to make a real case

ya'll can't be serious.

globalization, the advent of new technologies and television in second/third world countries makes it a no brainer that Jordan in his prime was more popular than Mike Tyson on the simple fact his image was carried way further in places and households that Tyson in his prime could have never reached.

The true test of popularity IMO is to evaluate the impact or recognition of an athlete in place were either one's respective sports had no appeal or no following at all, places that are way out there. Based on that, there is no way someone can argue that Tyson had that reach.

There's no point in arguing that boxing is more global than basketball. The fact is Michael Jordan, the Chicago Bulls & Nike IN THEIR PRIME were way more GLOBAL than Tyson.
