the bolded came during Jordan's prime.

here's a whole fukking book about this if you feel like it :

http://www.amazon.com/Michael-Jordan-Global-Capitalism-Edition/dp/0393323692
Sure, this book is about the rise of transnational corporations and the influence cultural icons such as Michael Jordan have on it. However, LaFeber never gets into WHY this is the case. He throws around the same three points throughout the 164 pages of text, leaving the reader wondering how he could possibly write so much when he realistically has nothing to say. It is more filled with statistics and dates regarding Michael Jordan, the Bulls, and Nike, than what the title implies. The book is a good read for fans of MJ and Nike, but if you're looking for a sociological perspective on globalization, look elsewhere.

Jordans prime wasn't that long after Tysons. In their prime though I'm sure Tyson was more well known worldwide.

"The 30-year-old basketball player, nicknamed Air Jordan because of his gravity-defying leaps, is already the world's highest-paid athlete and is fast becoming the best known. Playboy magazine, borrowing from the late John Lennon, declared last year that he was 'more popular than Jesus'. Autograph hunters have rioted at the sight of him. In China, a survey by a footwear company found he was the second best known personality after Deng Xiao ping. He is a planetary celebrity and an advertiser's dream. In Britain, where American basketball can be seen only on satellite television, Jordan was the first choice of Brighton students when asked by Gallup which of 16 celebrities had most influenced their values."

There was at NO point in mike tysons career that he was more popular than Michael Jordan.Bo jackson was equally as popular as Jordan for 1.5 years there's a lot of revisionism in here

Michael Jordan vs Michael Jacksons popularity woulda been more debatable

Utterly redicilous.
So Tyson wins the HW title in 1986 and is not as big as a second year NBA player....runs through the division flawlessly for 3-4 years, and is not more popular than a Jordan that hadn't been to a championship yet? You nikkas have GOT to stop this fanboy stuff and just TRY to be rational. :damn:

:snoop: The question is more popular in THEIR PRIMES not who was more popular in 1986.Jordans prime = A worldwide global icon who had people in foreign countries up at 4am watching his games,Mikes last game in a bulls uniform was the highest rated nba game EVER.He was on tv pushin chevy, gatorade, coke, mcdonalds, nike and ball park franks. He was in commercials wit bugs bunny on superbowl sunday in his prime

My fukkin grandmama knew who MJ was :camby: foh tyson groupies

Edit : and in 86 Jordan was more popular than tyson too.Dropped an nba record 63 on the celtics, won a slam dunk contest, rookie of the year, college player of the year,Won a ncaa title, gold medal at the 84 olympics, and was being hyped as the 2nd coming of one of the nba's most popular players ever Dr J

I'm 49 years old and have lived on all 7 continents at various times in my life. I've been to the seven major hotspots of Africa: Angola, Soweto, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique and Botswana. I've traveled from Phucket to Nantucket. No athlete....I repeat.....NO athlete is as popular as Michael Jeffrey Jordan.

I've seen the Jordan logo carved out in the Antarctic snow and will upload the photo upon request.

I've seen parents in Zanzibar demand that their newborn, on his exit from his mother's vagina, be welcomed into this world wrapped in a Jordan jersey in hopes that his greatness rubs off on the newborn.

I've seen a Chilean man, with no money left to bet in a heated game of poker, bet his father's life instead, purely because he read on internet message boards that Jordan pulled a similar stunt.

Jordan's influence and popularity is long, both globally and temporally.
this guy has to be trolling there

hmm...no. not really. he just wasn't in the same league as Jackson

my take: Tyson was obviously more popular with male adults but MJ made kids around the world dream of becoming NBA players
overall I say Jordan

...first thing they say (In broken English) "Ohhhh, Michael Jordan, Slam dunk!!!"

We all know Michael Jackson was light years more popular than both Jordan and Tyson.

mikelikesmike.jpg

And due to that video, all of jackson's fans now knew who jordan was if they didn't already. That video was in heavy rotation. I was in the Czech Republic during his HIStory tour. Folks put on Jordan's jersey when Jackson performed that song. Thousands of tongues out during the entire duration of that song which was an extended version. nikkas had there tongues out for 10 minutes straight!:damn: I was there. I'll upload the vid on youtube if yall are interested.

Tyson was beloved but the minute he broke from the powers that be and especially when he became a Muslim the media was on his ass looking for whatever to take him down

Mj always been a cornball brother to the media.

He was the goat on the court but off the court he was safe ass nikka
