What about Cuba? Can't say I'm well versed on race relations there, but it seems everyone with African ancestry there tends to be lumped together in a single social class.

There aren't really that many African countries with a significant population of "mixed" people for that to be a palpable cultural dynamic - other than Cape Verde and South Africa perhaps.

The division in the Horn of Africa is more along ethnic lines. The "coloured" population in Zimbabwe is almost insignificant compared to the black-Zimbabwean population. As for Sudan, their division exists along religious lines (though not as much since South Sudan became a country).

Afroasiatics such as Somalis and the Amhara enslaved pure Nilotics and made them servants. They also sold these Nilotics and bantu groups to the Arabs. Throughout history they only enslaved pure Nilotics.

As someone who has lived and studied in the UK before, I would have to agree with this.

Majority of mixed people I came across self-identified as "mixed race" rather than black.

Would you say they were socially "distant" from black people?
