:yeshrug:

As long as they're peaceful and allow the non-citizens Resident status
They're simultaneously pushing a plan to strip the citizenship of anyone who can't prove that their ancestors were citizens back in the 1960s. Even though most people alive in that time period didn't even have a birth certificate. The determination of "proof" will be made by lone judges of the Hindu Nationalist government's choosing who won't even necessarily have judicial credentials. And "non-citizens" would not have any residential protections, even if they had lived in India for generations. They're already building detention centers for them.

They passed this bill first so that their citizenship-stripping bill will only apply to Muslims. It's a blatantly neo-fascist ploy to appeal to anti-minority sentiment with an ethnic cleansing campaign.

They've already trialing it in one state. This bill ensures the draconian effects will only apply to Muslims.

Why India Just Stripped 1.9 Million People of Citizenship

The legislation provides citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians who illegally migrated to India from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Muslims are excluded from this list.

“This bill is for the religious minorities who came here from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Muslims are not minorities there,” Home Minister Amit Shah told Parliament as he argued that the legislation didn’t discriminate against Muslims. “There is a difference between infiltrators and refugees.”

:ld: I'm with Amit Sha on this one. Except it does discriminate, I just think they have the right.

Cape for someone using classic genocidal language when they're right in the midst of initiating ethic cleansing brehs.

"2018, Shah said millions of "illegal infiltrators" have entered the country like "termites" and should be "uprooted": "Should they be thrown out or not? Millions of infiltrators have entered our country and are eating the country like termites. Should we not uproot them?"[47]

That could be placed in the mouth of any Nazi leader in the 1930s and it would fit perfectly. In fact, Amit Shah belongs to the party that openly praises Hitler as a role model, brags about having produced Gandhi's assassin, and turned Mein Kampf into a best-seller in India. He has been directly involved in the police death squads that have killed hundreds of Muslims in "fake encounters" as well as the cover up of the government-orchastrated Gujarat riots that killed over a thousand, and famously promotes anti-Muslim sentiment for votes come election time.

He knows millions of real Indian citizens are going to be caught up in these purges. The 1940s/50s/60s records just aren't good enough to cover everyone. They're proposing it anyway out of anti-Muslim hate, and ensuring that no one other than Muslims is screwed by their impossible requirements.

Imagine if the USA passed an amendment that declared you only had birthright citizenship I'd you could prove your ancestors were born in the USA before 1865, then exempted all Whites, Asians, and Hispanics. That's the recipient of what they're doing to Muslims.

Like I said, cape for fascism brehs.

They're not even trying to hide the ridiculous double-speak:

The home minister said the Citizenship Bill will give relief and constitutional respect to those who have been living a painful life after facing persecution in neighbouring countries.

Shah dismissed the suggestions that the Bill is violative of Article 14 of the Constitution, which guarantees equality for everyone, as it aims to give citizenship to persecuted people only.

"This Bill is not unconstitutional and not in violation of Article 14 and has nothing to do with Muslims in India," he said but made it clear that Rohingya Muslims, coming from Myanmar, will not be given Indian citizenship.
Shah also said the Modi government will definitely implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) across the country and when it will be done, not a single illegal immigrant will remain in the country.

Shah said there is a difference between illegal immigrants and those who have come after facing religious persecution in the three neighbouring countries.

"No one should have any fear of being persecuted under the Narendra Modi government," he said after nearly seven-hour-long debate which was marked by fiery speeches by MPs belonging to both the opposition and the ruling alliance.

"We're not religiously biased, we're just helping persecuted peoples....who we define as anyone who is not a Muslim."

"What about persecuted Muslims?"

"Oh, hell no."

"Also, Muslims in India have no need to worry. By the way, we're going to purge ALL illegal immigrants...which we will define as any Muslim who can't prove their family's citizenship going all the way back to the 1960s. But don't worry, Muslims in India have nothing to worry about....because if we purge you you won't be a Muslim in India anymore, will you?"
