i mean modi already had his own little kristallnacht when he was governor of gujarat

I can't remember if I was listening to F24 or PBS but they had someone on explaining that the police are used to target and carry out extrajudicial murders of Muslims.

@Rhakim what are the implications for Kashmir? Will they be labeled as "interlopers", "illegal immigrants", etc?

Probably stripped of their nationality, and progressively pushed out Rohingya style.

India has a long history of hindu nationalism/extremism, for some reason it's not really on the western's radar. There was a visit of far-right european parliaments in Kashmir some time ago and India and Israël have been strenghtening ties. You already know what it is.

In this particular issue Kashmiris pretty much face the same vulnerabilities as everyone else. It's you're Muslim you might be interned or deported and the poorer you are and the worse your documentation is the better the chances you're getting screwed.

The thing is that until recently Kashmir had certain protections. Now those are gone and they're as vulnerable to the agenda as everyone else.

Tens of thousands of protesters defied a government curfew to march in the streets of Guwahati, India, demonstrating against the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Bill, which will grant citizenship to thousands of migrants on religious grounds.

Protests Grow in India Over Religion-Based Citizenship Bill

Crazy shyt is that from what I hear it's mostly HINDUS protesting. There are ethnic battlegrounds that go behind religion, apparently a lot of Assamese speakers are pissed off that they're gonna be hit by an influx of Bengali speakers, Hindu or otherwise. What a surprise, flaming xenophobia leads to violence and unintended consequences, who woulda thought?

@Rhakim I try to not draw historical parallels with Nazi Germany but that's exactly what this is

i mean modi already had his own little kristallnacht when he was governor of gujarat

and here i was all these years feeling bad that the nazis co-opted their swastika.

In Modi's Gujarat, Hitler is a Textbook Hero

"Gandhi is not so great, but Hitler is. Welcome to high school education in Narendra Modi's Gujarat, where authors of social studies textbooks published by the Gujarat State Board of School Textbooks have found faults with the freedom movement and glorified Fascism and Nazism.

While a Class III student is taught ''negative aspects'' of Gandhi's non-cooperation movement, the Class X social studies textbook has chapters on ''Hitler, the Supremo'' and ''Internal Achievements of Nazism."

The whole article is a disturbing-ass read. When Modi was still just the chief minister of the state of Gujarat, his textbooks straight up taught that Gandhi was a loser while Hitler was a strong leader whose power was to be admired.

This would be amusing if the consequences weren't so terrifying for so many people.
