Honestly I never hear this term until I started checking the coli for shyt. Is there a universal guideline for this or do you nikkas just make this shyt up on the fly? What makes you think certain rappers are a plant?

it's just a term internet CONSIPRIACY THEORISTS love to throw around

when they fail to realize ALL RAPPERS and SINGERS you hear on the MAINSTREAM RADIO...getting INTERVIEWS at big media outlets I.e (power 105...mtv) are INDUSTRY PLANTS BY DEFAULT BECAUSE SOMEBODY IN THE INDUSTRY DISTRIBUTION CHAIN IS BACKING THEM

It's virtually impossible THESE DAYS to get on commercial radio without the ties to a major distributor

hell I found out while running my INDY label you can't even put your music in the digital store like ITunes if your not plugged into a digital aggregator another word for distributor like Tunecore which is now owned by UNIVERSAL

so that term INDUSTRY PLANT in MY OPINION is an oxymoron being dropped by people unfamiliar with the mechanics of the industry

in layman's terms THIER REALLY ARE NO INDEPENDENTS

I don't think its hard to figure out what Coli posters mean by "industry plant"

Unless you're looking for some Merriam-Webster dictionary definition

youre missing the point. and we went thru this same exact scenario with you on this topic before.

the term is used for artists who get questionable hype & placement.

we've adopted this term in hip-hop because of the atrocities committed over the course of the past 5 years. the TRUE dark ages of rap. nobodies with no genuine grassroots buzz getting presented as such, and dudes lying about when they got signed. all sorts of chit.

its a heavily used term on the coli because places like this and sohh are/were hot-spots for that plant life. the industry found a way to manipulate the internet and milk it as much as they can.

drake & kendrick lamar are the FACES of hip-hop plantery.

While I agree with this. Industry Plant became another coli term destroyed by overuse. Originally it was synonymous with astroturfing. Artists that said they were independent but were really signed. Now it just means, Ive never heard of artists A and now all of a suddent they're everywhere.

I see an industry plant as someone planted and pushed by the industry to fukk shyt up and put forth an image or message they want to be put forward, not based on great talent or sufficient organic buzz but to fulfil the purpose they want fulfilled.

maybe we should change the term to 'industry agent'...you know- the plants that are constantly being funded and promoted for underlying agenda purposes...

It's just a disqualifier to discredit a rapper someone doesn't like. Every famous rapper that has ever existed, I mean really famous, was backed by the industry. Do people really sit around like "You know I really like this song but this rapper is a suspected industry plant so I'm not going to listen to it" ? It's funny cause people think they're not allowing mainstream to influence them by not listening, one way or another they're still deciding what you're going to listen to.

industry plants are real. a good example of one is j cole. his mom was in the music biz and had ties with def jam. she always had the plan to get him a deal with jayz. none of his mixtapes were ever organic, they were crafted by top ppl in the rap industry. nikkas don't even realize they're being forced fed the rappers they like. smh
