Industry plants the way you're describing them, never really existed. By your definition, No Limit would have manufacturing plant considering they self described as "world's #1 independent rap label", but were backed by Priority Records.

Why are people calling Jack Harlow and Coi Leray plants? They just getting press runs during their album cycle

Industry plants were just an artist marketing themselves as independent when they had label backing. Like Wiz, Drake, Cole etc

Noticed some people are getting "industry plant" mixed with rappers with buzz they just don't personally like

I see people calling people plants for the label doing what their suppose to be doing. (Promoting their artist, press runs, ads, etc)

No limit had a distribution deal with Priority.

That’s not the same thing as 2 chainz being an independent free agent when his mixtapes are the hottest thing in rap and then announcing he signed with good/def jam

Yeah or they call it “the machine” being behind them. And it’s like...... yeah that’s what being signed to a label is supposed to do :dwillhuh:

But it's the same thing. It's all surface level. No Limit ran ads with the world's #1 independent record label" the whole time there was a Priority label on the back of those albums.

2Chainz is not a very good example because for one he was under Def Jam as part of Playaz Circle before any of those tapes were hot. And the deal with G.O.O.D definitely came after the mixtapes were hot. A lot of you really didn't know Tity Boi and 2chainz were the same person. He rebranded himself and to a lot of people, he was a new artist even though he had "Duffle Bag Boy" with Wayne years prior.

No limit did not get an advance from priority and Priority was not responsible for selling the music. All priority did was mass produce CDs and charge a fee for each CD they produced

2chainz is a perfect example because part of his story was that he was independent and the hottest because of the streets.

If I'm not mistaken, No Limit did get advances from Priority.

Was 2Chainz telling this story or was this something that people just ran with?

Nah he wasn’t a plant. He just got put with a crew like Game and g unit
Oh nah. This dude came out before him. I can’t remember his name at all. His rap style was a blatant chance rip off… name might’ve been similar too
