A new study reveals that 3 in 4 business managers say Gen Zs, a.k.a. the TikTok generation, are “more difficult to work with than past generations.”

In the study published by Resume Builder, nearly 75% of managers and business leaders surveyed say they find Gen Zs to be lazy, unmotivated, lack technological skills, and lack discipline.

1 in 8 managers say they’ve fired a GenZer within a week of their start date.

Akpan Ukeme, the head of HR at SGK Global Shipping Services, says GenZers are exhausting to work with.

“In our organization, the Gen Zs I have interacted with can be exhausting because they lack discipline, and they like to challenge you,” says Ukeme.

“I’ve butted heads more than once with a Gen Z employee, because since our company is online-based, they think they know everything about the digital world and that they can teach me. They think they’re better than you, smarter than you, more capable than you, and they will tell you to your face.”

However, millennial Demi Korsoris (pictured) says older people are the ones who don’t have their priorities in order.

“Older generations are so confused about why we don’t want to work hard anymore or prioritize our careers,” she said in a TikTok video.

Korsoris says older people experience “life changing events” – such as losing a loved one – before putting themselves first.

“You know that older person in your life that had someone pass away when they were young and they live life to the fullest because of that? Now we have that access to that information,” she said.

Korsoris believes people in their twenties and thirties prioritize themselves now without waiting for a life changing experience.

“We know how short life is now – and it didn’t have to come from a life changing event,” she said.

“We have access to information and suffered through a pandemic – we view life differently than we ever have before. The access to information has made us smarter,” she concluded.

But older people disagree with Korsoris. They say young people are lazy and lack discipline because they spend too much time on TikTok.

“Millennials won’t work hard but will be the first ones to complain how they cannot afford to buy a house,” one man said.

Another person said: “All young people know is how to complain. You should get real jobs instead of spending your time on TikTok.”

But one older woman said she wishes she hadn’t wasted her time working when she was younger.

“I think it’s great to focus on your lives – I regret wasting so much time working, I just lost my husband and he was only 51. Life is too short,” she said.

Question: Do you agree that today’s young people are more difficult to work with than past generations?

Part of it is these kids were neglected because all their parents had to work just to keep the lights on and keep them fed. People downplay it but what kids go through affects them into adulthood. It can't be helped but still.

You have lazy folks in every generation. I laugh at anybody acting like that's new or more prevalent. Easy to just focus on them, though to come to whatever conclusion you want.

The real problem is people are not being given the right incentive.

Of course people aren't going to be motivated to work when the job pays them peanuts and provides no security. They're no longer buying into the con.
Same people living with their parents at 30 saying rent is too high. Can’t make it up

I have millenial/gen z children and while they all went to college. I was able to pay for most of their educations (2 out of 3 got full rides to so that helped).

But especially in the case of boys/men there is no incentive. They watched their parents slave away just to stay in the illusory middle class. Women's requirements have become untenable, jobs pay less and less and require more and more to get. Housing has shot out of control and low key banks are buying out homes to rent out.

That’s part of the problem but people don’t want to do whatever work is required to become more skilled to get that better income either. This is hyperbole but you have these Zoomers that think they shouldn’t have to go to medical school to be a doctor. :heh: There’s multiple angles for the overall issue but we still need to acknowledge personal accountability too.

how did they still end up on millennials? and yes, gen z does seem to challenge more stuff and have more "issues" that keep them from really working, me and my friends all manage gen z workers. but while some find it annoying, i'm not mad at it, fukk raising your blood pressure and stress level for a job. they get the effort you feel like giving, if they don't like it, they'll let you know and it's on to the next one.

the one surprising thing i've seen multiple times tho, is gen z that they lack technological skills...make sense, playing on an app isn't tech skills

Yup, easy to not want to work when there's no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. These kids are expected to go 5 or 6 figures in debt just to get a job. Nevermind buying a home or starting a family.

The jig is almost up
