The people who shoot out of the gates and get "rich" quick are the ones that tend to be broke. Cause your first contract is always your worst contract, and you need to build up this aura that you are rich, so you are over spending to look a certain way, renting cars, jewels, cribs, yet your deal isnt paying you like people think or even you think. But them rental bills are real numbers that dont go away. The older vets you metnion are the ones doing ok like french, pusha, game just cause they got past that first 1-3year period.
my question is, if ur someone like k dot or jcole, why do you need to have people think you're rich. they rap about things that ordinary people can relate to for the most part. I highly doubt kendrick got a bad record deal, cuz when he finally signed to a major label, his career was really on the verge of blowing up, and thus probably had multiple labels offering him deals.
I doubt j cole got a good record deal from jay-z tho.
kdot and jcole will not look right pulling up somewhere in a honda accord.... wearing a swatch watch and faded glory jeans. They are not as flashy as most and I respect both of them for it (i speak to jada on a regular basis and he comes through in joggers, tshirt, no jewels and is perfectly ok with it). Problem is with social media and the way NEW fans are... you have to have a benz 550 or you're broke, you have to have a rolex or you're broke, and for some crazy reason you lose respect. Look at the whole 50 situation, his 300m vitamin water deal turned out to be around 28m before taxes and everyone took cuts, lets just say its 10m, thats A LOT of money, but still inflated to "300m" its all bullshyt auras with a lot of these people, not all of them.

OK so what's the real deal? how are most rappers living. u dont gotta name names, but what gives?
IMO, if you're able to make a comfortable (not rich) living being a musician where you don't have to spend 40 weeks a year on the road, then you'repersonally.
I am not going to name names but its 99% bullshyt man...
I know of a rapper who went on tour simply to pay back rent and a car rental bill for 3 cars. Not HIS mortgage or cars he owns/finances but literally rentals, so hes out on the road busing his ass for back pay of someshyt he dont even own. Thats the type of shyt we would never have to do.
Look at 50 for example, now that he tried this shady move he has to prove his income ,not from thsi year thats easy to hide but 5 years, so the truth comes out, he owns like 6 cars and rented all the rest, this is 50... one of the biggest hiphop stars over the past decade+, one of the biggest rappers ever money wise and uncle sam is poking holes through that shyt, its easy to hide money in businesses in bankruptcy court, but you cant hide the fact that you rented most of your jewelry and cars...
