Instagram's Bolt (RIP Snapchat)

The photo-sharing, Facebook-owned social network Instagram on unveiled “Bolt” on Tuesday, a new messaging app that allows users to send short-lived photo and video messages from mobile devices.

Bolt allows users to send quick messages that self-destruct by merely tapping on a user’s photo on a smartphone screen. The service is Instagram’s answer to similar apps like Snapchat, which has a smaller but much more active user base (500 million snaps per day versus 60 million Instagrams), and even Slingshot, which is also owned by Facebook.

For the moment, Bolt can only be used in New Zealand, Singapore and South Africa. “We’re going to other regions soon, but are starting with handful of countries to make sure we can scale the experience,” a spokesperson for Instagram tells the Verge.

Terrio, that lame nikka with the DC tat between his eyes, King Keraun, all came from Vine. As far as videos go, Vine still has that over instagram

I don't have numbers but I can assure you Vine did not skip a beat when IG videos dropped. If you stay in the social media circle decently enough, you probably come across more Vines than IG Videos. *shmoney dances*


That being said, Snapchat will be fine.

instagram video actually flopped.. hardly anyone uploads videos anymore, I follow 6500 people and i might see a few a day. People use snapchat to post they videos to they friends, and if I see anything related to a play button on IG its usually a flipagram type picture with audio

snapchat wont die from this either, people wont just give up their snapchats for the same cot damn thing with a different name

edit: and im not saying Vine did or did not take a hit from instagram videos. But im saying that instagram videos just isnt utilized much
