The ONLY reason Russia didn't get involved with colonizing Africa was because it was too expensive due to distance/logistics. They tried a couple times, failed, and gave up.

Russia is less of an 'ally' than America to Africa, but is counting on Western Powers taking a 'hands-off' approach after much well-deserved criticism.​

I will entertain your question, russia is an autocratic dictatorial state with no democracy, its imperialistic in its nature and has invaded ukraine and russia.
