“The girlfriend experience” is the term women in the sex trade use for a service involving more than just sex. “They want the perfect girlfriend—in their eyes,” says Miranda, the young woman at our table.* “She’s well groomed, cultured, classy, able to converse about anything—but not bringing into it any of her real-world problems or feelings.”

Miranda is 22 and has the wavy bobbed hair and clipped mid-Atlantic accent of a 1930s movie star; she grew up in a Texas suburb. “I’ve learned how to look like this, talk like this,” she says. “I work hard at being this,” meaning someone who can charge $700 an hour for sex.

I hate how the media is pushing prostitution as a viable career for women. It's not.

All the hookers I know end up mentally damaged. It's better to be a stripper tbh. No 'glam' will hide the fact these are young women fukking old cacs for money.

Their clients are old white men. Instead of pushing this agenda why not ask why these girls are all hooking.

It's pretty interesting the mental gymnastics the chicks who do this work go through just to justify it.

On one hand, I want to say "get money!" (especially in today's economic climate) but, on the other hand, I want to say "I don't think this is such a good idea..."

Especially when it comes to the ones who are dipping it with the married men.

Ah well, it's as old as time itself and as long there are men willing to pay and women willing to receive, it will always be.

I think women empowering themselves through prostitution is complete bullshyt.....They are just submitting to the patriarchy. Yeah, you can say 'oh they are making money, and will empower themselves that way'. There's no stats that I can quote off hand, but I doubt any meaningful percent of prostitutes end up successful or really prosperous. You'll of course have anecdotal evidence supporting these hookers who make 500,00 a year, and no doubt some are true, but the majority are not. Vast majority.

You are literally selling the most intimate part of yourself for money. There's no escaping the kind of self degradation and de valuing of yourself you have to do, in order to make your living selling yourself.

LOL @ learning elevator pitches. I don't know if there is an agenda, but I think it's dangerous and irresponsible to push that this is an acceptable choice. Esp. in a first world country.

Wow is all I can say. I read the article and understand why women do this and why those affluent, desperate or older men hire them. By getting an escort, they don't have to deal with the many downsides of dating women like constant demands, texts, calls, fussiness, emotions, anger issues, neediness, etc. But it's still sad that one has to hire an escort....same with women who hire men. We should be able to attract someone decent without having to pay them...but dating and marriage involves money anyway so what can I say.

So, I just finished reading the article.

  • It doesn't surprise me that a lot of the sugar daddies are lonely creeps who can't get a woman any other way.
  • I've heard from other sugar babies that Seeking Arrangements ain't worth the time of day, especially with it being so saturated.
  • These sugar babies just want the designer clothes. What about investing that money for the long term?
  • Didn't realize so many dudes were becoming sugar babies themselves.
Interesting, interesting world that this sugar babying is.

Finished the article, the most laughable, pathetic, and sad part was admitting having sex for designer clothes, women who came from middle/upper class backgrounds.....More humiliating is that they know it.

“I’m just looking for someone to pay for my boob job,” says a small blonde woman who flew into town from Utah; she’s a Mormon. “I thought I must be doing something wrong because all the guys I’ve met on the site so far have been sending me dikk pics and hairy-butt pics.”

Which one of y'all was this?

The place is filled with guys who resemble John McCain.

I've read up that a lot of women who are getting into sex work by choice are women who come from middle/upper class backgrounds and even good families.

They get touted as being empowered women who aren't ashamed of their sexuality.

Too bad that the women in poverty who have no choice but to do this work and ain't receiving $400/hr are getting completely ignored.

I shook my head at the designer clothes part. Designer clothes will always be here but, not the chance for long-term investing (Buying a house, starting a business, etc;).
