Man Accused of Stealing Home, Pretending to Be Millionaire to Impress Girlfriend

He would do anything for love — even that.
Gregory D. Harris, 48, was charged with theft and burglary after authorities say he stole a BMW SUV and moved into a home in Indianapolis he did not own — all to impress his girlfriend, according to WXIN.
In early April, Harris made an offer on a home being sold by New York-based CastleRock REO in the 5500 block of Black Cherry Circle because his girlfriend saw a listing online and expressed her interest in it.
Despite being told that there were higher bidders for the property, Harris took it upon himself to move into the house, remove the “for sale” sign from the lawn and change the locks.
By April 10, multiple realtors noticed the “for sale” sign had been removed while attempting to show the property to actual prospective buyers, according to court documents.
When CastleRock REO was informed by the realtors, neighbors told them the house was full of new furniture. Harris also had allegedly turned on internet service, water and electricity, all billed in his name, in the home.
When the company told Harris the sale had gone awry, he said he believed he owned the home because of his bid. He then allegedly sent falsified documents, including a house deed, sale agreement and proof of insurance, to CastleRockREO.

The real estate company then involved authorities and on April 15 Harris was taken into custody by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police, who discovered the man and his girlfriend living in the home.
He admitted to changing the locks on the house and added, “This means nothing to me,” when police cited CastleRock’s continued efforts to remove him from the premises.
Harris’ girlfriend told authorities the two had been dating since January and she was under the impression he was a millionaire, citing the BMW he drives.
Police discovered the luxury SUV was stolen.
The vehicle contained a laptop, a pair of flash drives, documents and a book — “TrumpNation: The Art of Being The Donald.”
Harris is being held without bail in Marion County Jail.
