Windows 95. My family was poor as a kid so I didn't have one growing up and only got one when in jr. high and high school. I used to type up reports on an old typewriter from the 70s. The only computer I used before that was in the library and even then, it was some old as fukk apple shyt that barely ran an Oregon Trail type game (not even the real one - might as well been Oakland Trail).

I was kind of thinking about this a couple years ago when I was flying to Lisbon. I was looking outside and I just realized that something that now appears so obvious and not even newsworthy to us such as looking at the clouds and the Earth FROM ABOVE was literally impossible for 99% of human existence. Vast majority of people probably didn't even dream about it being possible. Think about it : now random unemployed people can be up in the sky and admiring the view, while the most powerful or richest Emperors before the 20th century could not.

So yeah, the idea of plane must've appeared batshyt insane to most people at that time. We've had boats since damn near the beginning of mankind, and cars and trains are just mechanized carriages, but planes are legit a totally new means of transportation that isn't even 150 years old.

56k modem back in the 90's.

Before that, I was using a 9600 baud joint, and before THAT I was stuck on 2400. And while 56k wasn't anywhere near what we have today, it was fast as fukk for the time. Imagine going from 30 mins to download a picture (2400 baud) to 10 mins (9600 baud) to 40 seconds (56k)

Also the day I discovered the ZMODEM protocol, it was over. YMODEM-G served me well, but it was over.
