The tax cuts I got as a business owner essentially cancelled the cuts that I lost as a homeowner. I ended up owing this year when I usually zero out/owe a little.
What did you pay in taxes though?

So many people assume that because they used to get a refund and didnt this year then their taxes didnt get cut.

I paid less in taxes but got a smaller refund...which is good.

...that being said the tax cuts themselves were hot trash

At this point I don't get refunds, I usually set myself up to owe as little as possible every year. Yes, I was able to write off more of gross profits but I lost a lot of the homeowner write offs that I had in the past so I ended up owing about 5000 more than what I usually pay which is considerable. There goes my vacation.

Got a good refund back. Filed jointly for the first time. Usually I owe since I’m self employed but I actually got a refund for the first time in 16 years. That marriage stimulus is great.

Yeah that home owner hit was a biggie for a lot of people. I tend to front load the year in withholdings. Around July I will adjust so I bring home more but take out less taxes so I dont get much of a refund. I try to be as close to paid in full without owning at the end of the year.
