what's a good amount to have for retirement you think?

LOL, well it depends on how you want to live and where.

I once was in a college class that a Disney executive came and spoke to. He said we would need $10 million.

That isn't realistic for everybody. Like I said it all depends on where you want to spend your retirement. You can move to another country and live on less money than you would need here in the U.S.

I don't think it's all about money either. At some point a person should learn how to sustain themselves by having their own land, growing their own food, hunting, fishing, etc. Especially if a time comes where the U.S. takes a major fall in it's economy, and people aren't living like they once did.

It all depends on how YOU and your girl want to live.

we work 40-45 hours a week now...

that's a great idea about having a savings to pay all the bills for a year...

Yeah, that's standard procedure, but a lot of people don't do that. 8-12 months of savings to cover all yo bills will have your back in case you lose your job + drawing unemployment.

A couple more things

1) Look into retirement. I don't know nothing about it, but it's best that way you don't have to work in your 60s. If you keep your living costs low, move smart, then I wouldn't think you'd need a huge savings

2) Look into passive income streams. If you swtich to part time you got more time on your hands. A possible side business. Even if that business brings in $1500 a month that's money you can throw in the bank or supplement with retirement

I just checked my accounts and we have enough saved up for a year's worth of expenses. If none of the properties are rented out and we're both unemployed we'd be covered.

as far as lifestyle..we already live in Miami, which is great. my only worry is wanting to travel and stuff...since we're gonna have more time we might need more money.

as is right now, I don't think out "fun budget" is more than $200-$300 bucks..

why not use the cash to try to get some other stream of income for extra security to better justify working part time during your youth.

like, if you are cutting your paycheck by 1500 by losing 20 hours of work, try to find an income stream to make it back that doesn't take up 20 hours.
