What did you do in 04? I would have killed to make that at my first job.
Call center work for DHL, the company totally folded after 7 months of working there but I found something new in call center work right afterwards for even more pay. It was a great job, first experience in corporate so they had a nap room, and there were free massages at your desk on Fridays etc.

Was the perfect job while being in college, $19 back then I guess is the equivalent of like $30 in todays money?

Nobody caught this salaried woman mentioning that she ordered a 10 piece, added 2 more pieces of chicken, and insulting them for not being able to spell?

:laff:

Corporate already on the line tho

$20 / hr with overtime you can stack some dollars. No overtime? Gig app to supplement.

Definitely makes a difference.

Average American is probably only making about $18 hr but overtime evens the field as much as it can be evened.

If you are childless and debt free $20/hr is good money. You gotta be good with money, though. Overtime is 30/hr :yeshrug: 10 hrs of overtime a week puts you ahead of most American's wages. There is a reason savings are at an all time low.

A 2 household income where 2 people make 18 is technically 36 an hour. That's the Average American household. The wages aren't high but they are pooled together.

The childless and debt free should live like kings and queens on 20 an hour. They only have to support themselves.
I make 60k a year and I live very comfortably. Childless, no student loan debt(didn’t go to college), car been paid off for years. Also live in the Midwest:manny:

Overtime is practically unlimited at my job also

is that not 38000$? I made less in the military

Value of money today is not the same as the value last year or 10 years ago or 20 years ago, etc

you can look up an inflation calculator and and mess around with the numbers

As an example ...

My first job in 2004 was $19hr :ehh:
That said let that man earn his check.

$19 an hr in November 2004 would have the equivalent value of earning $30.54 in November 2023.

Even if we take it back to 2020, you would need to earn $22.42 to have the same buying power.

I guess the majority of American workers live in poverty then
Yes

That’s exactly what that means. Americans are for the most part POOR. Allowing the wealthy and corporations to horde every piece of wealth.

Edit: 20 an hour in this economy is crazy. You’ll never own your own anything with that. Unless you bought years ago good luck with that. Its a decent salary if you’re still building yourself professionally and still have people to fall back on but it’s not a long term amount by any means

If you’re in your early 20s and it’s your first job, then 20 an hour is fine.
No grown man regardless of where you live should be comfortable making 20 an hour. Especially if you have kids. That’s a joke.

A honest job is a honest job and shouldn't be looked down upon.

Whether it's bad or not is entirely based on your living expenses at the time.
