Rent will body you. If you want a nice place at a nice location it's going to cost you a lot. Transportation will be another issue. If you're going to rely on public transit and Lyft services you can do that or you can get a beater car and have to stress about parking and the many expenses that come with car ownership you can do that. They both have pros and cons.

I have a friend out there right now that just got a job as a web developer making around 80K a year. Right now he's got roommates and etc. He works in the city and wanted to be able to walk to work, obviously that's costed him. That said though, aside from having to share a place with others he seems to be doing well.

I'd take the job and worry about the rest later. Plenty of opportunities out there (and if you want to commute to silicon valley that's an option too) Is this a tech job?

Edit: nvm I just read the rest of the thread.

chicago is only better in terms of cost of living. everything else :camby: terrible weather year round. my friend lives in chicago and hates it

i thought about moving there last year. the streeter building luxury high rise is way less than what i pay for rent :lupe:
but that weather :camby:

Snow >>> massive earthquakes

Who would live somewhere where making 75,000 is a must just to get by just for the weather? I would just move to Dallas or Charlotte if I want decent weather....or better yet LA

just go to bed with a bullet vest.
make sure to sleep under the bed....

A city with 400,000 with a higher crime rate than Gary Indiana is never a good thing... NEVER. That isnt just the bad hoods in Oakland but the entire city itself experiences 31murders per 100, 000 people and that's horrible! Dead cities like Gary, St Louis, Cleveland, Milwaukee can't even compare. You gotta go to Flint Michigan or Camden New Jersey to debate with

The last earthquake here that was newsworthy was 25 years ago :usure:
Add crime and higher unemployment and being in the middle of nowhere for chicago. 2 seasons, summer and winter.
Lol@ Dallas. I'll give u LA even tho they have twice the unemployment rate :manny:
