It depends on the child , you have to take into account if he lives in a high cost area, or childcare , private school , any special needs if he has health/mental issues.

Daycare is not a necessity like food, clothing and health expenses are. As a father, your money should legally go towards absolute necessities.

I think it depends on income. With income in mind $900 can either be too much or too little.

What is the baseline here?

In most places in the US, sans NYC, San Fran, LA and the like...$900 is about 50% of what you should need to raise 1 kid. Child support is in my mind whatever, half of what it should reasonably take to raise a kid. Full out, $22,000 a year isn't enough to raise a kid in most places? That's damn near the per capita income nationally.

Now if the non residential parent makes like 6 figures or more a year, and cost of living is adjusted, it should raise incrementally. Too many people are trying to use their kids as profit centers.

Where is the kid supposed to go when the parent with primary custody has to work :dwillhuh:

The point is people keep saying "Daycare alone is 900$ a month".

If the child is in daycare, what is the mother doing? Presumably the child has been put in daycare because she is working which means she should pay half the fee.

If she is not working and with the child, that child is half her responsibility.

The time has come to stop throwing aside logic and a basic grasp of equality when it comes to women and money.

For a lot of dudes that's damn near 50% of their income.

Put it this way after paying all your bills; rent, car insurance, groceries, gas, hydro etc... You have a additional $900 bill on top of that. Even if you got it like that, that's still $900 that could be saved or invested. That's 10,800 in a year.

If you're fully separated that's a pretty wack situation but I guess it's fair.

Seems like it depends on the situation. Some may not even be paying decade depending on the family situation. Also where the child and parent lives is a huge factor as well.
