It's an empire but not in the traditional sense since they don't extract resources from territories or control local governments. The amount of influence they have over other countries pocket governments and laws are just as effective though imo.
800 military bases around the world though:

Imagine if France had a huge military base in your state with 2000 soldiers

Sounds ridiculous right, well that's the case for the US in a lot of countries

No but all I see on American TV is white Europeans who look exactly like British people. They even speak English.
