Elaborate

People who immigrate here for the most part don't think of themselves as Americans. Chinese people still look out for chinese people, Mexicans look out for Mexicans, Ethiopians look out for Ethiopians. I look at all the cultural and religious divides here in this country and I don't see a melting pot, I see a powder keg that is waiting to explode.

Nope I think the opposite. Because of this diversity we'll perpetually be stuck in a hypercompetitive capitalist society which is good for aggregate wealth but horrible for average wealth.

It’s true this country is ungovernable.

Thomas Sowell used to speak a lot on the pitfalls of diversity and multiculturalism.

Most children of immigrants have very little connection to their homeland, most cant really speak their native language, most have never visited their homeland, most of them have zero plans to ever go back and contribute to their homelands.

Most children of immigrants assimilate into American culture.

After a few generations - these people will just be "Americans"

Country built by immigrants will always be what it is unless those same immigrants divert from who they are and try adopt the same laws and policies that made them leave their original homelands in the new land.

Many years ago unlike in europe where gvt buildings were guarded from the public..in america it was considered democratic everyone was free to visit the White House.

Diversity isn't the problem and it's arguably a top 5 reason the country became what it became. The problem with diversity is that if enough people stop believing in the potential of the country and look at it as a quick lick to siphon revenue out of the country, it can become a weakness, because there's no incentive to preserve the nation.

The closest parallel is obviously the Roman empire. While they were diverse, internal conflict lead to 100 years of political strife; crisis of the third century, year with 5 emporors. Eventually the empire was too big to maintain politically and people had their own agendas that weren't in line with preservation of the empire; see the absurdity of the tetrarchy. Each side had their own loyalties and militaries and eventually the regional tribes looked at the empire as a quick lick to make some money and didn't care about preserving the empire.

We are creeping towards that. Corporations off-shoring jobs and revenue, foreign nationals buying property in mass, backwards ass immigration policy that doesn't incentivize anyone to stay or build here, and unwillingness to work together politically. Country isn't going to fall anytime soon, but by the second half of the century we could be in some trouble.

I think this country clearly needs to forge a new national identity so that the American public can rally behind a common ideals of how this country should be shaped as we continue into the 21st century.

This country needs a momentary break from engaging in costly foreign military intervention, and instead focus on the festering domestic issues that have brought down the standard of living for most citizens. The fact that we couldn't pass an infrastructure bill is truly disheartening though.
