Wherever whores go.....
stringer already made it out. he was trying to peep avon to game, but avon lacked the clarity to see how his pride was self-destructive. he killed his best friend because he was unable to own up to the fact he fukked up. that shyt is....:snoop:

Stringer wanted to kill a US Senator you idiot. I think that's much worse than anything Avon did or was gonna go.

The Ummah!
Nope, stringer is the most demonic character in black Television. Dude killed his boys nephew, got his best friend sent to jail, smashed the nephew he killed offs chick, was punked by cacs and toms, he was just a low down dirty conniving snake, and a coward at times. Avon was a good dude, always looked out for his people, and a man of principle. :manny:

Give it up to Slim Charles. The most grossly underrated lieutenant in hood history.

here we have avon positioned on the top of wealth and removed from any risk that could send him to jail, and he doesn't even appreciate what stringer got him. he sells him out, continues to strap up for marlo, and gets violated in a way that sends him to serve out a football numbered sentence.

fukk avon.

No, what it is was, was a crisis of leadership, they were a TEAM and needed each other. Avon was "KING" and capturing the king is how you win the game.
As many people as Avon hurt, and with no other life skills, he couldn't do anything else. However Stringer was in the same boat, but it was opposite, Stringer was vastly intelligent but frustrated with his environment, most likely because of the way he grew up left him with no option but to concentrate on "surviving".
As he matured he realized he COULD get out of the game, but he had to play it smart. Avon tried to save Stringer, if he didn't give Stringer up, he would've lost everything. But the same fate was for Stringer, if he didn't give up Avon the whole organization would've lost everything.

To me Avon was the most honest and loyal person on the show overall, he didn't lie about who he was to know one.

:kpreallybreh: you cant be serious breh. If were talking about just the Wire then marlo overshadows Avon in his process of elimination and i do mean elimination.

For Avon wasnt about the money, it was more about the respect, power and all the stuff that comes along with it, Avon had a code and operated with for the most part some kind of honor. Stringer was the opposite, all about the money, which is what did him in, in the end, on top of that it turns out, breh wasnt as smart as he thought he was seeing as how he ended up getting extorted by some crooked politicians.

As far as him losing power in the streets, obviously he lost his largest base of operations when they knocked down the towers, also his connect in New York ended up getting caught up and he couldnt deal with Avon anymore, so his crew didnt have the product to keep the territory, plus Avon himself couldnt stay out of legal trouble due to the cops being on top of him at all times. Marlo got severely lucky son, them nikkas had grenades when they got raided :damn: not that marlo wasnt a capable smart guy but luck and circumstance had something to do with him gaining power

At the end of the day, Avon just ended up getting dealt a bad hand, and if you look at everyone else in the series, he came out pretty well in the end, seeing as how today in 2k14 he would've already been out of jail for awhile now

avon killed his best friend, who was simply trying to steer avon to a safer and more lucrative path. he drew unnecessary attention to his organization with his braindead obsession over marlo. stringer already told avon that marlo could keep the streets. they didn't need it anymore. they were already making money without the blocks. they had graduated beyond that, and avon was too dumb to see it. avon didn't have any intelligence or pride. he was just a glorified street thug who made it to where he was because of stringer's intelligence and shrewd navigation of street politics. yeah, stringer fukked up with clay davis, but that's to be expected of anyone who starts dealing with people you're not familiar with, especially a politician like that. but stringer still positioned the barksdale crew to do big things, and avon fukked it all up.

avon didn't try to save stringer. he was jealous of stringer. i've seen cats like avon before, dudes who see the smarter black man and start catching feelings because he's just a mindless ghetto hoodrat who doesn't have that intelligence. avon killed stringer partly because of built up resentment over string's abilities.
