Is Being Poor a choice people choose or a mindset that they have.

I mean think of it We being in America or abroad may look at other places or people and be like damn they poor as fukk.

But in all actuality they might be happier than those that think they got it all.


Was talking with someone that grew up what we would consider poor in this country. say that they never knew about poor or being poor. They had everything they wanted.

Yes the type of work I do I see it everyday people who want no better for themselves who rather have section 8 public housing over owning a home.

It's no more a choice than somebody with generational wealth having a leg up is a choice.

Poverty isn't just about being poor. It's about multiple systems coming to knock the air out of you before u can even catch ur breath.

Basic human anthropology tells us that your basic needs have to be taken care of before u can move on to focus on other things.

So we went from hunter gathering to farming b/c it afforded us surplus or freedom from having to constantly worry about starving. Well when u get surplus, now u can have people focus on other roles like painters and scribers and architects and bakers.

Take that same concept and lay it over current poverty now. If u are constantly preoccupied with basic survival, ur choices are limited. And if you grew up in that mindset it's hard to imagine oneself outside of it.

You can't ask if a blind man chooses not to see the sun, if he has been chained in a dark cave his entire life.

You also can't expect him to magically prefer the light if you release him when he spent his entire life in the dark. It takes time and education to make people both aware of their opportunities and resilient enough to get beyond the depression they may deal with from their lives before.
