Industry plants are individuals that are funded by the industry (of whatever persuasion) to steer the audience (hip hop in this case) towards a direction or trend that is more beneficial to the people who're funding the bogus act in monetary terms. Big sean has no pull on the culture, no influence on hip hop, dictates nothing and doesn't have a fanbase big enough to influence the game through sheep follow the sheperd tactics.


When that breh way back in the day made a thread 'exposing' the industry and said that a major label was preparing to try to deliberately push an openly gay rap duo for the sole reason of making homosexuality acceptable and profitable in hip hop, that's an example of what a legit industry plant is. Big sean is not that

a real example of these type of shenanigans from labels is frank ocean joining odd future. (I have no problem with homosexuality, its presence in music or gay singers/rappers, i really don't care) Odd future burst on to the scene as the edgy/alternative out there weird new brand of hip hop and it was a little bit too convenient that an openly gay rnb singer that had been fuccing with labels for a minute suddenly joined them out of the blue (i think him and mike g are the only ones that weren't founding members), which meant odd future gave frank ocean the perfect platform to be accepted in the urban music mainstream off the bat because odd future was seen as just a bunch of young weirdos who appealed to other misunderstood outcast weirdos (in the beginning) to the mainstream, so frank wouldn't stick out being a gay rnb singer, he'd just be seen as "one of them odd future niccas "

the term is nothing new, but if you insist on giving me the credit, who am I to turn down the accolades?

as far as big sean goes, I don't know much about his come-up. it comes off shakey, especially when they tried to credit him for a style that's been around for YEARS. but other than that, I don't know much about dude. I think he got on thru ghostwriting.

they tried to credit him for that reverse punchline flow. him and drake tried to run with it, but that style predated them by like 20 years. most notably, killa cam is probably the main one synonymous with using it.

that's why Ludacris dissed the hell out of big sean and drake.
