It's only valued in the pseudo intellectual social justice sense. If you can get up on stage and talk about what "Dee white maaann" did to us....you get a :ohhh:...:jbhmm:...:ooh: Response

If a cat says he wants to win the Fields Medal one day...you'll get a:rudy:..:childplease:..:shaq2: Type of response ....just how our community is, I've grown to accept it.:manny:

:patrice:

I don't know.

But sometimes when I log on twitter and make tweets I feel there is this expectation of us as black people to be dumb and ghetto and if we display any sort of intelligence we're immediately seen as a threat.

I think black intellectualism is feared.
If you're a black man or black woman and display some intelligence and foresight and education :merchant:society gets shook.

They think all we good for is for some dance moves, a hot 16, a wicked jump shot, inhuman speed, and nothing else.

I made some comments on twitter during the olympics saying that its cool that all these black people are winning sports competitions but we need more black doctors, technicians, chemists, biologists, geneticists, scientists, vetereniarians, architects, lawyers, judges etc....we dont need anymore black athletes.

It got some love...but I think throwing that notion out there that we should be more than show negroes gets people scared.

Anyways what are your thoughts?

got something special for you. young Nigerian American professor came up and still rising.

In January 2016, Dr. Constance Iloh made major waves as one of the only black and African academics and scholars ever placed among the illustrious breakout talents, young entrepreneurs, and change-makers on the Forbes 30 under 30 list.
Now Dr. Constance Iloh is making history at the University of California – Irvine, becoming its first Black tenure-track professor in the School of Education (a U.S. News & World Report Top 25 Ranked Graduate School of Education).

But just who is this 29-year-old academic luminary and breakout star?Professor Iloh is a gifted researcher and anthropologist of education who examines the changing landscape of higher education and its impact on under served students.

If I have any advice to offer, I would say never be afraid to let your light shine. I think this is especially important for women and people of color because so many spheres of life aim to limit and minimize us when we are destined to be greater than any box we could be put in. There were times I felt as though I needed permission to do things when I forgot it was God who positioned me in this space for a purpose. As long as God is my compass I trust I am going in the right direction.

Valued by who, exactly?

and honestly im tired off hearing and seeing "we don't need anymore athletes, or rappers or whatever, we need more Black doctors etc"

Cause i'm certain there are more Black Doctors than there are more actual rappers and ball players combined. Stop spouting incorrect narratives. Why do we have to put down one thing, to big up another thing?

What world do you live in?

Cause there are far more rappers and ball players than Doctors.

This is where you put some parameters on what you said, and still end up saying something wrong.

A Nigerian Inter-tribal Wedding In New York

It was glamour in display at a Nigerian inter-tribal wedding ceremony held recently in New York, America. Sola Okusaga from Ijebu Ode, Ogun state -tied the knot in a fashionable style to his pretty longtime sweetheart, Lorita Ifeozo from Ubuluku, Delta state, at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, New York. See some pictures below from the ceremony.

Sometimes I feel black folk have to "dumb it down" to be accepted.

You right...they now call intellectual black people "hoteps" or "militants" for not talking about sports and rap all damn day.
Not really. The people being called coli militants are the people bringing up stuff like "the jeffery album cover is a tool to dis-empower the black community" . Bringing that up around an intellectual IRL will get the :comeon: from them real quick. I'm pretty sure no one is going off on people talking about finance, philosophy, IT (programming/hardwarde), business, e-commerce, etc. people love those threads
