Black people would be uplifted by the educational development of ten percent of the population, which would disseminate into the rest. Honestly, Du Bois was a little naive with this theory.

I'm not sure he meant what you stated because his actions did not show it. I'm spent a little time studying Du Bois and people you would call the "talented tenth" of the Harlem Renaissance and they did not seem to have as much interaction with the masses as they should. Unlike Marcus Garvey. They seem to spend much of their time trying to evaluate the status of black folks by trying to appeal to White folks through literature. To basically show white folks they are "assimiliable". That they hold the same values as white folks, just as intelligent as white folks, that they can contribute to civilization etc, etc. If only they would have spent that much time investing in educating the masses, and realizing the importance of black economics

Im not aware of this "talented 10th", (this is. why i love the Coli----to learn). But are you saying that they were moreso on some "look white people.....we're not animals!!! Please accept us!!!":mjcry:? Was that what you meant by "assimiliable"? And the highlighted is exactly what i meant. If there was a new "talented 10th" they would have to have the platform to reach and educate the masses. Lets be honest, currently all of the wrong things are being given the highest platform to influence the masses. And this is by design, by the way. This is why we definantly need our own media. Thats kinda where im getting at. The "brightest" of our kind needs just as much of an opportunity to influence as these individuals who are spreading messages of criminal and destructive behaviour to our youth.

Not exactly. He just wanted to exemplify our capabilities, our achievements, our Victorian values, and every positive attribute. He would scorn black writers for not having "propaganda" pieces, meaning pieces that paints black people in the best light. For example, he had issues with Jean Toomer and Claude McKay because they chose to writer about poor blacks which included the "immoral" activities they engaged in.

Honestly, some of the "brightest" of our race don't want to take on the responsibility of uplifting our race. That's why we have many of our most capable people integrating into white establishments to utilize their "talents" when it can be used in black establishments.

I don't think we can eradicate even half of the corruption made on the black mind with a media of our own, who will have to compete with the white media our people have been so used to. I don't see this happening while living in America, where the majority is white. I can see this happening in the motherland, but certainly not here. Just my prospective. We can't adequately influence our people when there are countless other people and sources competing with us to influence them.

There has never been a time in African history, in Africa or America, where blacks were united.

Blacks had to be united in independence movements such as Ghana, Kenya, Haiti. It just that once they kicked the white folks out, they weren't fully prepared to manage a nation by themselves. Which is hard to, especially, in Africa, where for the first time there was a collective identity.

I totally agree with you like those educated black people with money are not obligated to help other black people but whether they like it or not sometimes you dont choose to the life you want it chooses you and those black billionaires IMO are doing a disservice to their people who they know need help with job creation , education and overall a better mentality even tho they are not obligated to do it. We need to look out for each other from the riches to the poorest we need a sense of urgency as a people so IF I MAKE IT YOU MAKE IT overall

We are not in a position as a race to be looking out for only ourselves or a small group of us . Once we as a people get on overall then maybe we can start to be a little selfish. The upper middle class black population and higher is a very small percentage of the total population

Some people just aren't race conscious. They don't believe it's their obligation to help the next man in order to elevate our race. A lot of black people don't think "collectively" just "individually" when it pertains to race. So of course, when some make it, they are not going to go out of their way to make it "easier" for another to make it, unless it's their family.

Only thing those of us who are conscious of this can do is lead by example and hope some follow.
