But unfortunately yes it is quite bad. My parents have been trying to get me to bleach for years, I simply refuse.

She's right. My mom also encouraged my sister to bleach(as she herself did to marry my dad) too growing up. luckily my sis never gave in to this day.

We're Africans(Ghanaian).
Bleaching in our culture is associated with beauty and attraction to advance or marry into a higher status. Not all women support this tho.
As for my mom, yes she also bleached for most of her life to make herself more attractive and eligible to advance to a higher status. She only stopped bleaching herself 10 years ago in her 50s.
