Granted he's not Manny, not Mayweather and is "just" 27 years old...but with his experience and being the marquee Golden Boy fighter (and likely the biggest active one in the game at the moment), why hasn't he been guaranteed anything above the $5M guarantee he got in the Mayweather match almost three years and seven fights ago?

Canelo's purses since Mayweather match (bold = non-PPV):
- Sep '13: Mayweather, $41.5M; Canelo $5M
- Jul '14: Angulo, $750K, Canelo, $1.25M
- Jul '14: Lara, $1M; Canelo, $3M
- May '15: Kirkland, $1.5M; Canelo, $3.5M
- Nov '15: Cotto, $15M; Canelo $5M
- May '16: Khan, $2M; Canelo, $3.5M
- Sep '16: Liam Smith, N/A; Canelo, $3.5M
- May '17: Chavez, $3M; Canelo, $5M

Is he being underpaid at this point? Has he been underpaid for years now? To be clear, i'm not saying he is being underpaid. I am just asking.

Those numbers are Canelo's minimum guarantee by Golden Boy which they have to report to the commission. He gets additional money from the other revenue streams. I think when all was said and done he earned $10-15 million for Mayweather and Cotto, and is expected to do so for JCC.
As far as minimum guarantee's go, Canelo is supposed to have one of the highest in boxing. With Floyd gone and Pacquiao's earning potential diminished, I would say Canelo is boxing's highest paid fighter.

Canelo had his check for this fight threatened by that lawsuit he lost because they said his assets didn't even cover the 8 million dollar judgement.
He iddn't even have enough assets to cover 8 million dollars and if they gave him the whole check this fight he'd still be 3 mil short.
This is why I thnk they are fighting GGG more than anything else.

Damn he's been fighting washed Fighters since May 2015

Yea I noticed.
He basically has had two legit opponents in the last 4 yrs: Floyd and Lara. One fight which was completely 1 sided schooling and the other which he arguably lost too.
The rest of that resume is actually quite struggle when you account for the context of those matches
That's the problem of the "they fight anybody" narrative, it's base entirely off name recognition. Angulo, Cotto, Khan, and Kirkland all were war torn and/or shot when Canelo fought them. And Chavez and Liam are lower tier boxers

All Star Boxing Move To Garnish Canelo's Wages From Chavez PPV - Boxing News
All Star Boxing Move To Garnish Canelo's Wages From Chavez PPV

By Miguel Rivera

The attorneys for promoter Felix 'Tutico' Zabala of All Star Boxing have filed a motion to garnish the wages of two-division world champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

Last June in a Miami court room, Canelo was cracked with a jury verdict which directed him to pay $8.5 million to former promoter Zabala.

For several years, there was an ongoing lawsuit between Zabala and Golden Boy Promotions/Canelo.

Zabala claimed that Canelo signed a four year promotional contract in 2008, but then violated that contract when he signed a promotional agreement with Golden Boy in 2011. The jury exonerated Golden Boy, but ordered Canelo to pay $8.5 million to Zabala - ruling that the Florida based promoter introduced Canelo to Golden Boy and helped jump start his career in the United States.

Of course Canelo vowed to appeal the jury's verdict and he filed two motions. One motion was to dismiss the verdict and other was for the court to order a new trial.

Both of those motions were denied a few weeks ago.

Zabala is now moving to claim his money from Canelo's upcoming HBO Pay-Per-View showdown with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., which takes place on May 6th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

PLAINTIFF’S MOTION FOR WRIT OF GARNISHMENT AFTER JUDGMENT

Plaintiff, ALL STAR BOXING, INC., by and through undersigned counsel and pursuant to Fla. Stat. §77.03, hereby moves this Court for the issuance of four (4) Writs of Garnishment after Judgment, and in support thereof, states as follows:

1. On March 24, 2017, the Court entered a Final Judgment in favor of Plaintiff ALL STAR BOXING, INC. and against Defendant SAUL ALVAREZ. Pursuant to the Final Judgment, the Court awarded Plaintiff ALL STAR BOXING, INC. damages in the amount of Eight Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($8,500,000.00) from Defendant SAUL ALVAREZ, with interest accruing at the rate of 4.75% per annum. A copy of the Final Judgment is attached hereto as “Exhibit A.”

2. Defendant SAUL ALVAREZ has failed to pay the amount of the Judgment as set forth in the Order and it does not appear that Defendant has in his possession sufficient visible property on which a levy can be made to satisfy a judgment.

3. Plaintiff, ALL STAR BOXING, INC. has reason to believe that the Garnishees, Golden Boy Promotions, LLC, MGM Grand Hotel, LLC, T-Mobile Arena, and Home Box Office Inc., have in their possession or control goods or money belonging to Defendant SAUL ALVAREZ.

4. Accordingly, Plaintiff, ALL STAR BOXING, INC. requests that this Honorable Court enter an Order granting the Motion for Writ of Garnishment after Judgment and direct the Clerk of Court to issue the four (4) Writs of Garnishment attached hereto as “Exhibit B.”

WHEREFORE, Plaintiff, ALL STAR BOXING, INC., respectfully requests that this Honorable Court enter an order: (i) granting the Motion for Writ of Garnishment and requiring the Garnishees, Golden Boy Promotions, LLC, MGM Grand Hotel, LLC, T-Mobile Arena, and Home Box Office Inc., to file an answer to the Writ of Garnishment; and (ii) granting such other and further relief as this Honorable Court deems just and proper.
