Folks said that about the spread, and its been on film now. It hasn't been shut down once you have the proper squad - OLine, receivers, qb. Same as Kelly's shyt IMO

Spread my azz...

Ha ha. Just kidding. :shaq: It's hard to work that into a conversation in a no-homo way.

Absolutely. Actually, the Saints ran a spread the year that they won the 'ship!

the saints didn't run anything that's going to look like what chip's going to run in philly. The saints passed 70% of the time, while Chip runs 70% of the time. different concepts. Drew Brees wasn't running option looks either

this gimmick isn't going to work in the nfl. he might have some early success but once it's on flim it's a wrap.

?????

He's running a variation of the same thing they're running in Seattle and San Fran.

Key word: VARIATION. He's added coaches on his staff with NFL experience to assist with the "tweak".

Hey, here's a question....how do YOU know exactly what Chip Kelly is going to run when there are people here in the organization who don't even know yet, INCLUDING the coaching staff and players? :stopitslime:

He's not running the same offense as he ran at Oregon, he's running a VARIATION of it. He's said this many times now....if you lived here and saw the press conferences and interviews you'd know this.

They may run more than pass, they may pass more than run. It depends. Nothing is set in stone right now, he's given no indications yet about what his offense will be definitively.

It's the REAL reason they got Barkely, most likely....keeping their options open.

Because Barkley nor Nick Foles have the foot speed to run that read-option variation, so right now NOBODY knows what the hell dude is gonna run. Hell, HE may not even know yet.

before you crown the read option and declare it successful, remember this was first year of rg3, kaep and wilson starting in the league.

that shyt will normalize, it always does. I expect all of those qbs to be far more spied this year, and defenses watching the lanes against the run. all of them will have to put the ball into the air more and run less. especially in the long run.

Yeah, it's gonna normalize, but the read option success is based upon players succumbing to instinct, and not playing their assignments.

it's not just some fluke shyt like the wildcat, it has the potential to be a mainstay in the NFL.

defensive gamplanning is one thing, but having the athletes with high football IQ's to carry that out is a whole nother thing..if it becomes a mainstay, well start seeing more and more undersized LB's and rover/Lobo safeties ..til this day, it's mind baffling how teams can just look flat out stupid from their inability to play the option.

it'll make the game better as a whole, cause defensive coordinators are getting lazy outchea....Monte Kiffin was looking :merchant: when Chip put up numbers on SC.

i don't understand why folks are gonna thing that scoreboards are gonna be on tilt like in college tho... it's not like Chip can get the best players to come to Philly just cause of how god like their locker room is or dope jersey variations...then go out and beat up on Washington State n shyt.

Pats run a whole lot of spread. So does Green Bay and New Orleans
pats never won the SB when they ran the spread heavily (under mcdaniels)

GB doesnt run a traditional spread at all, they just pass much more than run.

saints are the only team that actually utilized spread to the way its used in college to win the superbowl, over the last decade+

I mean, Im not saying it wont be successful, it just wont be AS successful and easy as it was last year, imo.

rg3 kaep and russ were all on run-first teams and teams werent sure what to expect from rookies and a first year starter. I know its a cliche thing to say but it really is true. its not gonna get easier for any of them.

I expect all three of these guys to be good/great qbs for years to come, but I wouldnt be surprised if some of them suddenly suffer performance drop.

I don't get your point. Pats haven't won a super bowl in almost a decade, however, they have been the most successful team in the NFL over the last 10 years which is an indicator that the spread works on the NFL level.

Saints do it, and Green Bay does too. No such thing as a "traditional" spread perse, its way too many different variations of the spread

We mentioned earlier this week the report that Eagles tight end Clay Harbor was getting some work at linebacker, but coach Chip Kelly apparently isn’t finished tinkering.

According to Geoff Mosher of CSNPhilly.com, wide receiver Jason Avant got some work in the secondary as well.

sounds like he's going to be a disaster.

the question was what was the last team to win the SB with it.

pats briefly utilized the spread, and they barely use it nowadays, although mcdaniels being back might get them back at it. they used it heavily for like 2.5 years, then stopped.

my point is that really anything close to chip kellys offense is only in new orleans now. and they are coincidentally the only team to win it all using it as bread and butter of offense.

Luckily, Kaep and Russell are in organizations who've been making smart decisions about players to bring in for long term success...so with them, in my mind it's gonna be more along the lines of "you know what's coming, but can you stop us? :jawalrus:"

they've got some maulers up front, and power runners to go along with it.

for the read option to succeed in the NFL, it would have to be one based upon power running, not a finesse game like in college.
