Is Chrono Trigger too dated to play for the first time in 2016?

I got it on Nintendo DS and thinking of trying it.I never played this as a kid.Too busy playing sports games on Genesis.I wouldn't get any nostalgia off of it so is it still worth it to play it now or is it too old to enjoy?I recently got into rpg games from Fire Emblem and i finished it so i'm fiending for a rpg.

Yea it's a really good RPG, some would say GOAT. I played through it again a cpl years ago and it still holds up well. The art design and sprites actually help it not seem as dated, as say a PS1 title.

Chrono Trigger is one of the best games period. Multiple endings and the story throughout changes depending on your decisions, which aren't as clear cut like the modern tell tale games that straight up ask you what you want to do. Things you had no clue would be affecting anything will change the outcome. Fantastic pacing, great music, all the characters are memorable. Start playing it asap and enjoy the ride.

Slightly overated, maybe garbage game. I played it last year and saw how dated it was and the combat was too slow. My 20 minutes playtime turned me off of the game. I immediately hopped onto COD afterwards.
