This is true. Mental abuse is worse than physical abuse cause it lasts longer and cuts deeper than scars and wounds.

What people say on the internet should not be taken so serious, there is always gonna be trolls who say shyt that they would never say in real life because they feel there will be no repercussions.

The internet is a weird form of communication. there are way too many people that take words on the internet so seriously and take it personal not knowing that it shouldn't be taken as seriously. Also, there are always going to be haters, trolls, and detractors so it's not worth giving them any sort of attention. Cause like you said, people are completely different in real life. The same people talking mad slick online are the same people that are quiet as a church mouse and wouldn't bust a grape in a fruit fight offline.

I will say this though, those who feel the need to troll or bully online shouldn't be shocked one bit when karma pays a visit one way or another.

THIS.

I agree that online bullying is significantly worse that real life bullying.

I agree that cyber-bullying is a real thing, but come on.

You're telling me that someone calling you a fakkit on twitter is worse than the fear of physical harm coming to you every time you go to school? :beli:

With the internet though, bullying can get extreme. People have lost their jobs, got divorced, lost money, had their lives ruined, or even committed that over a situation that started on the internet. It's way too easy to expose personal and unflattering information about someone online. It's not just about someone calling someone else fat or ugly. All it takes is an ip adress and that's it. I think people underestimate that most people have skeletons in their closet that they don't want in the open and they come to the internet to talk about the under presumed sense of anonymity when that isn't the case. Even our posts on here could be easily traced back to us one way or another.

With cyber bullying the thing is the bullying can be based online, offline, or both. It's problematic when those worlds clash and information and personal truths/opinions get exposed in the real world and have real world repurcussions.

People think this shyt ain't real, but it is very real.

If people cyberbully you all you have to do is logoff

I agree. Wholeheartedly. The sad truth is too many people just can't because deep down inside they enjoy the attention someway (even if it is negative) because they don't get it IRL. Or they have a fixation/connection to certain sites and just can't get away from them.

It's easy to avoid situations like that though. An online community is like any other community. Treat people with respect, mind your business, contribute once in a while, and you'll have no problems. Trolls are unavoidable pay them no attention.

I think we forget how "new" the internet is in the general sphere of Western Civilization. It really has only gotten popular in the last 15+ years so therefore we're still writing the pages on it and the side-effects and phenomena that come with it. Todays kids aren't learning this stuff (like how to handle the internet) because it's still relatively "new" and our generation (90s kids, 80s babies, etc...) didn't deal with this reality so confusion is to be expected.

No one is denying that cyberbullying "happens" but it's not really a legitimate issue that deserves organizations and Be A Star campaigns.

I agree. It shouldn't get to that point. It all goes back to poor parenting. I think the problem is that most parents smother their kids and shelter them and don't teach them how to fight their own battles and stand up for themselves. They let their kids have everything too so they don't know the value of hard work either.

Definetely not worthy of another tax-exempt non-profit organization.

The whole cyberbullying campaign is closely linked to the gay rights movement. Bullying has been ingrained in this country from day one so I found it strange how all of a sudden anti-bullying campaigns started over the last few years. Now I know why.

YES. Breh it IS.

You can MOVE schools but you can never get away from the backlash of a real online bullying fiasco.

There are people who got bullied online at 13 people making pages of them at 23 the pages are STILL on google.

It's harder to get away from.

It's not a simple thing of shutting your computer, if a pic of u goes viral you can bump into people on the subway who recognise u

just my opinion but I'd rather have a bully face to face and rock it out than be closed by hundreds of people around the world and have it come up every time someone googles me...
