Above the fray.
But like Tre said, using that argument is being intellectually dishonest because Rose is the only one who had a short run as an elite player. Damn near all of them had HOF resumes without the MVP. Rose’s circumstances are the first of its kind in basketball, so using that as a precedent is kinda illogical.

Hence why I asked about the Giannis hypothetical.
That would be a wrong assumption about Rose. Bill Walton managed to get an MVP during his injury riddled career. Granted he won a ring as the man.....and one as part of a great Celtics team, but he missed SEASONS worth of games in his career.

Walton is the closest example but he still won those two championships and also had a legendary 4-year run in college.

Rose made it to the conference finals once and was a one-and-done player

I will say this a final time. We all know who is currently in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Recently a man who didn't play in college, and never won a single playoff series (as an active player) in the NBA got into the Hall.

Former MVP Derrick Rose will eventually get into the Hall of Fame.

T-Mac was able to get into the HOF despite not going to college and a lack of playoff success because he had an 8-year run of playing at an All-NBA level where he peaked as a 32 PPG scorer.

Same reason why Bill Walton was able to get into the HOF despite only having a very short run as an elite player in the NBA because of playoff success and college success.

Unlike T-Mac, Rose did not have longevity playing at a star level and unlike Walton, he didn't win championships and didn't stay in college long enough to build a resume. He had a great 3-year run of being an elite PG that peaked as an MVP, but he never won anything in the NBA and only played in a college for a year. I'm not saying he'll never make it to the HOF but I'm inclined to think it'll be an uphill battle.

But we can agree to disagree :manny:

I don't think he needs a championship to get in to the HOF. People really forget he has those gold medals for international play the same way they downplay it with Melo.:martin:

If he gets a 6th man award he'd be guaranteed, they'd put him in for overcoming the injuries and being productive. Coulda joined team USA for another gold medal if he didn't have to conserve his body for the regular season.
