He helped the league go global, but as like an evil genius, I think he started to feel like he had to have TOTAL control, and may have "swayed" some outcomes in the process.
false
iverson came in the L in '96...the dress code didnt happen until 2005....and that was becuz of the fight in detroit in '04....

OOOHHHHHH
I get so SICK of nikkaz giving David Stern credit for shyt he didn't do.
1. He did NOT "save" the NBA.
Magic Johnson and Larry Bird did.
Their NCAA championship game in 1979 was and may still be the 2nd or 3rd highest rated program in AMERICAN HISTORY. The story of Magic vs. Bird was White vs. Black and inner city vs. rural. It was the thing that brought people to the game.
He wasn't even the commissioner at that point. He didn't become the commissioner until 1984. By that point, Bird & Magic had already taken the NBA from tape delay status and revitalized it. They had just won 4 of the past 5 titles at that point and the NBA was at it's peak BEFORE Stern became commissioner.
2. He lucked into Michael Jordan.
Just like the Bulls, David Stern did nothing to help the rise of Jordan other than stop fining him $5,000 every game for wearing his Air Jordan sneakers, which they did early in his career.
He or nobody else knew Jordan would be as great as he was. Nike and Jordan were the ones who took the NBA global, because Nike wanted to sell more shoes.
All David Stern did was benefit from the 3 biggest stars in NBA history falling into his lap, and then getting all arrogant and drunk with power.
It started in the mid '90s when he started fukking with guys like Dennis Rodman, but it was okay because Rodman was a lunatic, but then as the NBA became more Black, he went out of his way to be a thorn in the side to all the "Hip-Hop Generation".
Then, he changed defense, because as Michael Jordan was going, he wanted another Jordan to take his place, so he made the game easier for guys like Kobe Bryant and Grant Hill (at the time) to dominate, because they could fill the void.
Then he even changed the ball at one point, but the players got enough nuts to not let him get away with it.
Then the "dress code".
Then the "flagrant foul" rules that would've made all of Magic and Bird's battles in the '80s highly illegal.
Now, you can't fight in the NBA, but when the NBA was at it's most popular in the '80s, everybody fought.
Now, if you look at refs the wrong way, you get thrown out of the game.
If you breathe on somebody it's a flagrant foul.
It's such bullshyt now.
That's why I really don't watch anymore.
There's a place in hell for him and Roger Goodell's punk asses.
