Really Stern's popularity declined when Allen Iverson came in the league cause that's when Stern turned to a dikk and started focusing more on NBA player's image and conduct (Dress Code). Plus I hate how he turned off defense in the league by getting rid of hand checking, plus all these extra technicals last season. But in fairness he did make the league International and profitable. Of course Bird Magic & Jordan took the league to a new level of competitiveness in the 80's but it still had to be marketed right.

He has ruined the league, watered down the game to usher in this era of pussies flopping and no defense allowed, referee scandals, erased proud franchises, and made getting to the championship about who can bring in the most ratings rather than who plays the best basketball. People of course will give him credit for Michael Jordan coming into the league, but on the other hand he should also get credit for the league falling off the map once he retired.

iverson came in the L in '96...the dress code didnt happen until 2005....and that was becuz of the fight in detroit in '04....
