I see a lot of posters on here shyt on PG's such as Lillard and Curry for being bad on defense when in reality they do what's necessary which is funneling their man into their rim protectors.

Another point is, with how athletic the PG position is becoming, can you really guard any of them with just a single man? It usually takes a team effort, or just bad decision making from Westbrook to stop him. It takes high pressure/double teams to force Curry to pass the ball where he becomes turnover prone.

Yea it would be great if the players were elite defenders like Westbrook has the ability to be, but in the grand scheme of things, I think it's more important to have a rim protector than a lock down defensive PG.

no, if the point guard is running the offense, someone who can defend and disrupt the thing that makes the offense click is definitely an advantage. But if you have other teammates you can run offense through then obviously its less valuable

A good defensive PG can disrupt a teams entire offense. He can stop the other PG from getting to his spot & disrupt passing lanes. He can force them into 1v1 ball & into bad jump shots. When he's playing off ball defense, he can deny the other PG (who's usually the best passer/decisoin maker) from getting the ball. Can double on post player & strip the ball. A defensive PG is good for any team.
Have you seen how Avery Bradley used to fukk up PGs by 1v1 full court pressing them? :usure: That shyt will ruin a game for you, you can't even get into a rhythm with a nikka up your chest the whole game

The problem with that line of thinking is that it puts too much pressure on your rim protector centers if your PG is a turnstile on defense. You want a defensive wing that limits how often the other teams PG is getting into the lane cause yeah your rim protecting center may not allow too many scores but eventually they'll pick up too many fouls doing that.

Yeah but none of the elite PGs can do that (Bradley doesn't even do that anymore), not only because their workloads are too heavy but because they can't risk getting into foul trouble as they're the motor of their offense.

PG defense, in the grand scheme of things is most definitely overrated.

And most of these elite PG, usually play with another person that can be a primary ball handler.

The Spurs have no problem playing Parker off ball
Thunder can use Durant
Warriors can use Iggy

This isn't even supposed to be a shyt on Chris Paul thread, but denying the PG will only really be effective on a team like the Clippers where the PG is always the center of play.

When did rim protectors become the "thing"? Letting your man easily blow by you, so that your C can come from the weak side, is the reason that there are so many open Js. Guard your man, at least make it difficult for the opposing PG to get into the spots he likes.

Look what Patrick Beverly did in the playoffs two years ago. Completely took the thunder out of contention with his frenetic defense
