I don't even know much about Diplo, I jumped on that wave a lil late but after reading all the posts, it really sounds like he went from being an artist to a label manager who prob has less time for his own music and to succesfully promote teh artists he signed. I'm wondering : isn't that, in a sense, the same as Kanye, Dre (how many people signed to Aftermath never released anything?), Rza ?:jbhmm:

And how exactly can a DJ be a "culture vulture" when his job is precisely to play music from other people :patrice:

Now the fact that he's become mainstream is obvious and a friend of mine who actually followed him quite early more or less stopped checking for him like already 3 or 4 years ago, but I guess that's what happens with success...

Dude was a dj that basically mashed up all genres. He then started producing records by mashing mad different genres, that alone is a style that he pioneered.

I don't know about Culture Vulture. Cats can't play different types of music in the club?
He has a spark when he started but he's been garbage outside of MIA's early shyt.

He makes money off his sets :manny: Is it introducing people to the music? sure. But he's the one making money. Like I said, it's a fine line.

I've seen him twice.

It's just... like @Tetris v2.0 said...his own artists seem to have a short shelf life same with the people he cosigns and he's quick to move from one thing to the next.

I still wonder why Switch left Major Lazer though at times...
I think ppl need to seperate Diplo as an artist and Diplo as a label owner/businessman.

If someone ain't selling, or bringing in what you expect then you have to let them go, or you have to put your efforts behind someone else that is.
I don't know all the politics behind every artist ont he roster, but I do know label politics. And half the time its just as much the artists fault as it is the labels.

ESPCIALLY nowadays where artists are still expecting the labels to hold their hands and do everything for them.

Diplo produced all of her Piracy Funds Terrorism mixtape.

She still has a fanbase but after that NYT article in 2010 it seems like she sort of alienated many people with her politics...being Sri Lankan and all that.

What article :ohhh:

Mia still cool with me. Saw her in concert a few years back and it was :blessed:

Diplo is just too tough to call brehs, hes cool but cuz hes white the coli is already like :wtb:

he rides waves, but also works with a ton of people, and no one has really shyt on him in the scene/industry. plus those block parties are cool

but hes def not the one to be aiming culture vulture hate at, unless like, some racist video or audio of him leaks:yeshrug:
