Yes he is, he was a 90lb weakling in the 9th grade...his first month of high school he got sucker punched in the face while drinking water from the fountain....then later in the month, he almost got thrown into the tracks by a bunch of kids.
He joined Taekwondo that same year...about 3 years later he gets into Brazilian Jujitsu. He's not an imposing dude either, about 5'10 190lbs....but he's a guy club owners in NYC call when they don't want their bouncers to get involved in liability issues. He trained directly under Renzo Gracie and some others.
He tells me, in practice he can fling around guys that are 6'4 260lbs and own them...only to get humbled by someone who's 5'6 170lbs....it all boils down to experience and technique. and it works both ways, sometimes he'll literally get thrown around and owned by one of them 6'3 cats.
Yea you never know. Cats get tossed around because they just do the have the experience with leverage and balance that you get from training with balance and leverage for thousands of hours.
If you train directly under Renzo you're good as hell.
