I think it is.

The Documentary is a true blockbuster album, arguably one of the last real ones in hip hop before record sales began to decline. It had damn near every big producer in the indusry and some huge guest spots.

But I prefer Doctor's Advocate. It plays better as an album IMO. I love Dre but his executive produced albums can sound over engineered and too rigid for their own good. DA is looser and flows better.

I also like how DA has a more specific west coast sound. It was kinda weird how Game was talking so much about bringing the west back on The Documentary when it didn't SOUND llike a west coast album. But tracks like "Lookin' at You", "Da shyt", "Compton", "Ol' English". "Bang" and "California Vacation" give the album a nice westcoast vibe.

Track for track I think it's more consistent than The Documentary. It might not have the classic singles but as an album altogether it's stronger. And as corny as Game can be and no doubt the title track is one of the most awkward songs ever I respect and like how earnest he is on here. There's an honesty to his rhymes that's refreshing. Plus his flow is a lot sharper than on The Documentary where at times it sounded like he was still trying to find his voice.

And one more thing. THIS shyt right here: :ohlawd: :noah:

that song in OP and the title track is what made this album special. let's not forget this track

it's debatable, but The Doc is a classic. this just proved he didn't need anybody to move forward in his career.

Yes.

Considering the fact the rumor that went around that 50 ghostwrote the bulk of TD
with DA Game showed he could craft out a good album on his own.

Yea it is to me. Game was appearing to stand on his own. While I'm not convinced that Dre didn't help (the leaked tracks, the producers were linked to Detox at some point, and the whole album had the Dre "polish") Game made his best album and really left 50 in the dust creatively

the best songs on DA are

Why You Hate The Game
One Night
Doctor's Advocate
Lookin At You
Wouldn't Get Far

but Doc got

Hate It Or Love It
Like Father Like Son
Start From Scratch
The Documentary
We Ain't
Where I'm From
Don't Need Your Love
Dreams
How We Do

it's very hard to call DA a classic, but it's a solid effort.

ya

it was a success for 2 reasons

game proved he didnt need dre or gunit

and it was more of a westcoast feel to it instead of overpolished mainstream appeal of documentary

Exactly why 2/2.5 are reminiscent of The Doc/DA

first disc sounds overpolished but it's very strong

The second disc sounds like a great west coast album
