I think it is.
The Documentary is a true blockbuster album, arguably one of the last real ones in hip hop before record sales began to decline. It had damn near every big producer in the indusry and some huge guest spots.
But I prefer Doctor's Advocate. It plays better as an album IMO. I love Dre but his executive produced albums can sound over engineered and too rigid for their own good. DA is looser and flows better.
I also like how DA has a more specific west coast sound. It was kinda weird how Game was talking so much about bringing the west back on The Documentary when it didn't SOUND llike a west coast album. But tracks like "Lookin' at You", "Da shyt", "Compton", "Ol' English". "Bang" and "California Vacation" give the album a nice westcoast vibe.
Track for track I think it's more consistent than The Documentary. It might not have the classic singles but as an album altogether it's stronger. And as corny as Game can be and no doubt the title track is one of the most awkward songs ever I respect and like how earnest he is on here. There's an honesty to his rhymes that's refreshing. Plus his flow is a lot sharper than on The Documentary where at times it sounded like he was still trying to find his voice.
And one more thing. THIS shyt right here:
