Doctor's Advocate was Game really finding his identity as an emcee/artist and not just rapping on handpicked songs and beats already given to him. The Documentary played out more like a composite of 50 and Dre's templates and ideas. Game was a capable rap artist but conceptually he spent most of the album just falling in line, and it's actually worked to his credit.
But I prefer DA because he went way more in-depth as an emcee and got more personal (Why You Hate The Game, Old English, One Night, Doctor's Advocate.) It was a Game album, not a G-Unit/Dre album.
It's the difference between moving into a great house that someone else built vs designing your own from the ground up.
