Is Dr Dre one of the most overrated producers of all time?

if it was as a simple as dre taking credit other albums would sound as good...nothing ever sounded like cronic NWA or 2001

Disagree with the thread title but OP is correct in saying Dre got credit for sounds he didn't create.

Above The Law were doing g-funk before it was actually called g-funk. And if you listen to "efil4zagginN" it was obviously heavily influenced by that sound.

I always saw Dopeman as one of the foundational bricks of g-funk

I mean the sample is one of the most popular in the sub-genre

You mean "Funky Worm" I assume?

Eh, a few people were sampling (Breed, PMD, AMG, etc.) that so I wouldn't consider it g-funk. I get what you mean though.

EDIT:

Never realized how many people sampled this sh*t.

DJ Yella helped produced that song and a lot of other NWA songs :mjlol:

Why do you think his sound changed when he went to Death Row:mindblown:

You all dikk ride people for so long you develop MAGA mentality

Overrated no probably not but did he have a lot of help at times? Probably. I agree since 05 he has been very hit or miss (Miss a lot of times) but in his prime dude was a problem. Chronic and 2001 are masterpieces but as you said he had help I am sure on quite a few songs.

Dre has a signature sound that you just know it was him. a bouncy beat with hard drums.

No one can really replicate this sound as well as him on their own. Not Daz, Mel Man, Scott Storch etc
