Is drafting an Offensive Lineman with the 1st overall pick a waste of a draft pick?

I think so.

The 1st pick in the draft should be someone that can drastically improve your franchise.

It should also be someone that energizes the fan base( Increase Jersey and ticket sales) Based solely of his potential.

Taking a Left Tackle does neither of these things. I actually think it is a cop out for the most part.

I rather swing and miss on somebody with the potential of Dez Bryant with the 1st overall pick then take Joe Thomas.

What do yall think?

It depends on team needs. but if you get a lineman that can come in and play from day one, and you have a good enough QB i might.

if its LT I have no problem with it .... its insane how important that position is in the NFL

think of all the ridiculous athletes there are in the NFL trying to butt fukk the quarterback ... how the hell are you going to get Dez Bryant the ball if your QB is getting sacked or fumbling every play

The LT are more sure things. The skill position guys slated to go early this year overall are pretty weak.

Parcells fukked up on the Jake Long pick.

Is it really that important though?

Its aknowledged that the Cleveland Browns have the best left Tackle in the game?

Why doesn't that translate in wins, better rushing game or better passing game?

Am I suppose to believe that every single year Brady or P.Manning have the best LT in the game every year.

I don't think it matters much if you have an elite LT vs. a Average LT.
you select best player available whether it be LT or DT

Do you really though? Chances are in the NFL if you are drafting first you have a lot of glaring needs?

The 2 positions that have the most impact on the field are QB and DE.

I just don't see having the best LT in the draft on your team translating into wins or enthusiasm for your team.

why the fukk does it matter ? if you need a tackle, you take a tackle. it's that simple.

your line of thinking gets teams to ruin their franchises by drafting qbs without any oline, defense or weapons and subsequently sucking balls.

all that 'defining franchise' bullshyt is for the birds. 22 starting players on the damn team

The bold is correct. The red is incorrect.

"Potential" is half the battle of choosing a draft pick. The other half is what they can currently do. If you've got an OT who's a game changer RIGHT NOW, you take that over a playmaker with "potential". Why? Because a playmaker can't do chit if the QB doesn't have time to get him the ball.
