Video has got me comparing the two and I honestly cant think of a good reason why Drake won't see himself as the new Jay.

He has the wittiness of Jay in his lyrics

His flow is as good and in my opinion better than Jay

His catalogue is as good as Jay Z's when he was at the same stage

So is Drake right? Is he the new Jay?

I'm sure there are other similarities between the two that I have overlooked but I will let ya'll bring it up :jbhmm:

Not that I agree or disagree with the others, but this 1 just caught my eye....

HELL TO THE fukk NO!!!!!!!

Did he write em though?

Anyone, no, this is a stupid question

Drake has had an incredible run though

For a certain generation he will be to hiphop what Jay z was to hiphop when we were younger.

But is he better than jay z? Hell No! No one is and no one is close.

The big testament of Jay's popularity isn't his raw numbers, however impressive, but his consistency and longevity. There's an argument to be made that Hov wasn't ever the clear-cut alpha at any given time like others do, but he has always been one of the main three to five guys in hip-hop. He's got 10 straight #1 solo albums (an all-time record across genres which is fukking crazy). When we look back at time, are we going to remember Ja Rule or DMX's brief run at the top more than Hov's enduring presence in the industry for two decades?

No.

Will he be the first rapper who isnt street at all to be held in that regard?

I doubt it

I never thought of it like that but this nikka Drake was so big and important to his fans and rap that he made not writing his lyrics something that didnt matter.

But his influence, impact and dominance is pretty undeniable.

And the kids who dictate rap now. they grew up with Drake from SFG.

Its like how Jay controlled Rap from Vol 2 to the Black Album.

Im not about to wax poetic about Jay in this thread but no one had the responsibility of Jay z to produce content for a wide range of fans like Jay did and delivered every year.

I don't know how y'all compare anyone to that man.

No. We'll remember Jay more because he had longevity but, the bolded was all I was trying to say. A bunch of corny nikkas jumped on me for something everybody in the Booth has agreed on a thousand times before. Even though we all have the same memories, everybody has a different perspective on it....my perspective was Jay was hot but, never the hottest. As time went on dudes wanted to be him because he had the money, the boss image, the businesses, Beyonce, etc. But in terms of music, there were alot of rappers bigger than him. So I don't get where people think that's wrong to say. Everybody got their opinions, so whatever.

Drake is his own man and his accomplishments are his own.
Stop trying to put him in Jay's mold because he'll never match up.

:what:

Drake is the one comparing himself to Jay constantly, but he's not an MC.

Gotdamn we need rep back.

I'ma make a note pad so I can remember to neg OP.

I don't listen or pay attention to Drake much.
I just see people constantly trying to force similarities between them :manny:
I don't know what I said that was wrong.

I know I'm the type to hit posters with that Know Yourself video, but cmon breh.

Jay-Z's discog is light years ahead of Drizzy's. I'm not even sure how this is questionable.

The lack of poll in OP kinda proves even he know it ain't true. Drake has some dope tracks, sold some records and has had an 'era' in hip hop. So he is in the same catergory as Ja Rule at this stage, not in the Jay Z catergory.

Drake has been out for 6 yrs & has enough hits for a two hour show

If he has about 3 more solid albums, he will be on Jay's level musically

I celebrate Ether day every year and feel guilty listening to some Jay tracks.

But even I know Jay is top 10 easily. Drake doesn't even come close to top 50/100

Dude doesn't even write his shyt.

He is probably bigger than jay. But more on a Pop level. But i rather be Jay. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay better artist. More purpose to his musical essence. And u can't buy independence. Drake just the latest Pop star at the head of the machine.

Plus Beyoncé the baddest bish thus far.
