I look at both "Born Again" and "Duets" as Biggie Remix Tribute Albums. Most of us hate these albums cause Biggie had ZERO input but the fact is it was a way for rappers to live out their dream of working with Big (And Puff to line his pockets). Both albums are uneven but "Duets" made me appreciate "Born Again" a little more cause it had more of the essence of Big on it. But "Duets" still had some bangers:
Hold Ya Head (This is basically a suicidal Thoughts Remix but the beat is dope and the Bob marley sample works)
Spit Yo Game (This is basically a Notorious Thugs remix. Twista and Krazyie verse was really good and they sped up Big's verse to make it sound even faster so it still holds up all these years later. Swizz kills the beat)
Huslter's Story (This verse was taken from the "You'll See" track with the Lox. It's a pretty good mash up as Big verse is sick. Akon drops a dope hook. Scarface caps it off with a dope verse)
NaSty Girl (This is a remix of "Nasty Boy" that features Nelly, Puffy and Jagged Edge. It was the biggest hit on the album going Gold and
#1 in the UK. It's a good remix for the clubs and a beat I could see Biggie rapping over)
Beef (This is basically a "What's Beef" remix produced by Havoc featuring Mobb Deep. It's hard and f*ck and if "What's Beef" was a single this could be the B-side for sure)
Living in Pain (This is a "House of Pain" remix. The original had Big, Pac and Stretch over a westcoast sounding Easy Mo Bee beat. It's very rare. But this was a good remix produced by Just Blaze. It kept Big and Pac but replaced Stretch verse for NaS and Mary J was on the hook)
Whatcu Want (This is a remix of "Whatcu Want" which is a rare underground Biggie song. The original is very raw Hip Hop. Danja adds the bounce to the remix and Jay drops a verse)
1970 Something (This is a remix of "Respect". The beat is very good and it features Game spitting a decent verse and Faith on the hook)
Those are the only songs I can co-sign. Everything else is either just not a good mash up or the production didn't hold up. Also some of the songs Big's verse just wasn't on beat and I blame the producers for that.
