Nah. It's born out of immaturity. Any mature adult won't give a single fukk about what gaming machine the next man is playing on. You like what you like, I like what I like. Simple as that.
It is not just limited to gaming.
We see it all the time in the PC/Mac, Android/iPhone and even high end purchases like Cars regardless of age. People just like to defend their purchases in all walks of life and I have fun following it.
i guess i'll buy a ps4 next year!!

BTW make no mistake about it. As much as people tend to get annoyed with it, fanboys are good for the industry. It forces the competitiveness of businesses/developers to come out with their best product.

Alot of it is most definitely poverty. I literally have multiple of each console, so its no biggies but i know many posters are very irrational when it comes to consoles because they likely can barely afford one. Those that are struggling at that level should consider dropping gaming altogther and focus on getting money. Gaming should be a hobby, not an all encompassing time sink like many of these "true gamers" turn it into.
