The funny part about it all is they have no problem with each carribbean group having their own ethnicity. No problem with it at all. It only becomes a problem when Black Americans decide we will make ours unique too. All of our ancestors came on slave ships, but they get to be their own ethnicity based on the the nation they are in now.
Breh,
The shyt is disingenuous as fukk.
Some of the same posters lumping Caribbeans into one single undifferentiated group to try and "Prove a Point", would NEVER tell a Jamaican that they were Bajan, Never tell a Haitian they were Trini, and they did not have their own individual lineages and ethnicites.
Never tell a Igbo they were Yoruba or Fulani, and that they "Didn't have their own lineage/ethnicity", NEVER would they do that.
They RESPECT those groups, they DON'T respect Ethnic Black Americans, thus all the dumb azz trying to tell us what we are, and what we aren't, and the sheer audacity of thinking they can dictate to us how we can identify. Like their opinion on the issue even matters, SMH.
The same "Ethnogenesis" process that made Jamaicans, "Jamaican", Haitians "Haitians", is the same Ethnogenesis process that made Ethnic Black Americans "FBA/ADOS/AA/Freedmen" etc...
Muthafukkas in here arguing that "Water isn't Wet" when it comes to Black Americans, but then "Water Becomes Wet Again" when dealing with "NON-FBA", SMH.
The bottom-line is that when we just used "African American" or "Black American" these were terms that anybody could slide right into and claim to be.
So when it is time to celebrate the good of being "Black American", it is all good. But when it is time to talk about the negative things that go on, they are magically back to being "Nigerian", "Jamaican", "Haitian" etc....
When people are talking cash-shyt about Black People, then they can "Delineate" from us to let "Others" know that they "Aint Like Us" and are "Different than those Americans".
The most telling was when "Dr. Umar" came up with his acronym that included the word "African", some of the SAME posters who were making fun of "acronyms", and supposidly had an issue with FBA as a term were now HYPOCRITICALLY OK with Umar's "version".
I sit back and watch most these threads, don't often post in them, but just observe, muthafukkas be so full of shyt.
