Is Foxy Brown's influence/legacy/body of work being unfairly downplayed because of Lil' Kim?

She def got some influence from kim no denying .
But their rapping styles aren't really the same .
Nicki is right foxy flows are amazing . Foxy can get on any beat and kill it . Plus that whole Caribbean connection . Y'all gotta look at nicki around the Gaga time too . She really was influenced by her as well . Some of those wild hair dues are because of Gaga .

Its because Nicki stole Kim's image. All the crazy sexy outfits and colorful styles and shyt was all Kim.

I think Nicki looks up to Foxy more because they both Trini.

So yeah its a lil crazy to idolize one person, but copy the style of their biggest rival.
True, she definitely parts from Kim (mostly the image) but I could hear a ton of Foxy in Nicki's music.

Her flow and delivery especially when she 1st stepped on the scene was damn near a carbon copy of Foxy's

Foxy had a topless pic on Instagram up and nobody cared....lol....she hasn't been mainstream since before the towers fell...almost twenty years

Kim was pretty active in the 2000s
Sorry if I didn't mention this in the opening post, I meant in the 90's. After the Broken Silence, Foxy completely fell off. And although Kim did too not too long after, she still managed to remain a name in pop culture (thanks in big part to Biggie)

Nicki is pretty much the outcome of combining the two biggest attributes from Foxy n Kim. Flow and Image.

I like foxy music better and more attracted to her look

This.

I always thought Foxy looked better and I liked her music better than Kim.

The only thing I’ll give Kim over Fox is Drugs and Queen bytch.

Outside of that, I fukked with Fox’s albums and guest appearances more.

Eve has it was worse when it comes to being forgotten tho. Eve was selling more records then Foxy and had her own tv show...yet Foxy gets way more acknowledgment then Eve. So I cant point at Foxy while ignoring Eve..

Because foxy was out before her and eve kinda left music doing pop type rap

Kim was bigger, had the longer career (junior mafia 95 thru her final solo in 05, foxy was done after 01/02), and is a persona people cared about/had more pop culture influence. And like other said, foxy burnt bridges, industry folks and artists didn’t canonize her the way they have Kim due to her shytty moves.

I grew up under them both and definitely know they were running shyt, but Kim’s style and persona (the shyt she said on records) stands out more and is the person I’m more drawn to, she was just a whole other level.

Not true. Not in real time in any of their primes anyway. And to keep it 100. Foxy got more respect as an emcee from nikkas than Kim did. Most nikkas I knew had Foxy as their favorite between the 2.

Who cares about just emceeing, especially what men think lol. It's clear both we're having rhymes written for them. The better MC doesn't have anything to do with why one has a bigger legacy years later or gets more recognition...the question this thread is posing.

And yes, Kim was bigger than fox in their primes - Kim sold more albums. Kim was a star. Fox was a rapper. They both introduced hood chicks to high end labels, but while Fox taught us the names, we wanted to emulate Kim's whole style down to the big momma persona.

They were both stars. U downplaying the fukk out of Foxy and her influence right now and this is the exact shyt the OP is talking about. Them bytches was Yin and Yang. Of course Kim was overall bigger due to Biggie but they gap wasn’t THAT wide until after their respective primes of their career. All this Kim was a star and Foxy was a rapper shyt is just make believe and history revision. And as far as rhymes. Yea they both had ghostwritten rhymes. But anyone around them knew Foxy wrote her shyt more consistently than Kim did. Regardless bytches looked up to both of them. Chicks gravitated more to Kim and nikkas gravitated more to Foxy. They both sold records in the 90s and to put in perspective. While Kim went on to sell more overall. Foxy’s initial numbers for her first album were better than Kim’s initial numbers. Foxy debuted and peaked higher than Kim. Im not saying Kim didnt overall become bigger but chill wit the exaggeration.

Debuted higher? Peaked higher? Ok, she had the bigger lead single leading into her album, Kim stil sold more, on their debut and over the course of her career, and had a bigger impact... exactly why she’s talked about more now.

No one is rewriting anything, this is smack dab my era of music. They ran female rap but Kim had a bigger influence, on women especially - that’s another big reason why she’s still held so near and dear and Fox isn’t. You can talk in all the circles you want, bring up what men gravitated to (which ain’t wholly true, nikkas went just as wild for Kim’s Benjamin’s and quiet storm verses as they did for foxy’s 4321 and firm placements, grown men were defending the classic rating the naked truth received more than anyone), Kim has the longer lasting impact and bigger legacy. :manny:
