Is Foxy Brown's influence/legacy/body of work being unfairly downplayed because of Lil' Kim?

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Debuted higher? Peaked higher? Ok, she had the bigger lead single leading into her album, Kim stil sold more, on their debut and over the course of her career, and had a bigger impact... exactly why she’s talked about more now.

No one is rewriting anything, this is smack dab my era of music. They ran female rap but Kim had a bigger influence, on women especially - that’s another big reason why she’s still held so near and dear and Fox isn’t. You can talk in all the circles you want, bring up what men gravitated to (which ain’t wholly true, nikkas went just as wild for Kim’s Benjamin’s and quiet storm verses as they did for foxy’s 4321 and firm placements, grown men were defending the classic rating the naked truth received more than anyone), Kim has the longer lasting impact and bigger legacy. :manny:
U arguing some shyt that im not. Im not speaking in circles. Im telling u the truth. In the PRIMES of their career. Mid 90s shyt. Foxy and Kim was neck and neck. Kim’s legacy went on further after Biggie died. The gap wasnt THAT big until late 90s early 2000s. I said over the years Kim lasted and her name rang more which is one of the main reason Hardcore went on to sell more. But like I said. Kim benefitted heavily from being attached to Biggie. I was smack dead in NYC during both these bytches primes. I remember that shyt like it was yesterday. And the shyt u doing is the shyt the OP was talking about.

Great, you were in NY, a place more closely tied to both, so maybe y’all viewed these chicks as neck and neck since you were so vested in them. I’m on the west coast and I can tell you Kim’s influence was bigger than music breh. Like I said, foxy put us on game the same way Kim did, but bytches wanted to be Kim. Dudes out here gave Kim more love, from who they played to who they wanted to smash.

No one is arguing that they weren’t peers, yes, for a moment it was Kim and fox and then everyone else. yet even so, Kim outpaced foxy. Legacy and impact is something that has to be looked at when all is said and done, it’s the reason people look stupid having legacy arguments about athletes when they’re in their prime cuz you don’t know where they’re going to end up. Kim’s prime lasted longer than fox, and her career and impact was bigger than foxy’s, and this was by their second albums. Chyna doll was a dud commercially while notorious KIM was a success. Then add on how hard fox screwed herself over industry wise, it’s not hard to see how and why Kim’s legacy is bigger.

Everything sold a mil back then, stop. that album didn’t have the legs or impact of ill nana, I was one of the only chicks in my circle who copped that album, but everyone (my friends) had notorious Kim....and I was certainly the only person with broken silence. Chyna Doll did not live up to expectations

Edit: it’s even in this def jam book how they were disappointed with Chyna doll and how quick it fell off the charts https://books.google.com/books?id=2...page&q=chyna doll disappointing album&f=false

And

But yet she on her knees telling Lauryn she loves her mind and spirit. :mjlol:
Yet she's eating off Kim's plate from the very beginning without an ounce of Lauryn's influence:skip:

Very true.

Kim only ended up selling more in the long run because her work ethic was stronger and more people liked her. But in the beginning, Foxy was definitely eclipsing her. Kim won the race but Foxy started out stronger. If Fox hadn’t burned so many bridges, she’d be getting her just due now.

It’s one of the things Remy always said. She likes Foxy music but despised her as a person. On the flip side, she liked Kim’s music AND Kim as a person.

People gotta remember Foxy had beef with just about every female rapper back then not named Missy. If she had kept it cool and kept going, she’d be right alongside Kim today.

Eve has it was worse when it comes to being forgotten tho. Eve was selling more records then Foxy and had her own tv show...yet Foxy gets way more acknowledgment then Eve. So I cant point at Foxy while ignoring Eve..

I can see why you would say this, but I disagree a li'l bit.

Foxy gets more acknowledgement in the rap world than Eve, but Eve is has crossed over to the pop
side so she has more cache overall.

And imo, Fox killed herself. She coulda been The Greatest.

Way i see it

Kim did lady marmalade w/ Mya, Pink, and Christina Aguilera and that shyt went beyond urban ears, among other pop features

She was on red carpets w/ memorable outfits and socially she was a fashion industry darling

Musically her run lasted longer. Every single album she put out had at least one mega hit.

putting music aside, Kim was more likeable behind the scenes

Lil Kim vs Foxy Brown social comparison is basically Cardi B. vs Azaelia Banks, without youtube, and social media outlets.

Another thing is Foxy had little to no narrative. Kim's career jumped off after big died and the marketing machine had the "Late Notorious B.I.G.'s estranged mistress" angle to push.
Foxy had Jay in the beginning, but then he went and had Kim beside him in the "give it to me" vid in 2000 (which I remember foxy talking about in XXL magazine)

As i recall in a Jay interview, He had her and Amil on Roc-A-Fella tours and they would be fighting. He probably got tired of that shyt.

Lauryn was her fav artist .
So if someone like Gucci loves nas but his music doesn't reflect that means he doesn't really like him :skip:.

Also y'all don't listen to nicki so y'all wouldn't know about her subject matter . She talks about it all .
Teen pregnancy, abortions , drugs in her family , she tells these kids to stay in school . She actually really displays her life in her music but y'all don't listen and talk about radio singles .

Ma'am
Everybody who's been listening and been apart of hip hop since the 90's and back knows full good and well Nicki has eaten well off of Kim's plate in particular
Only someone who started listening to hip hop when Nicki came on the scene would believe all that poo poo Nicki be talking when she be fronting on Kim.
Nicki is the opposite of Lauryn in everyway
Come on now

It sold pretty much off of the hype and Foxy's brand at the time, but truth be told a lot of nikkas weren't feeling that album like that. Even the singles were weak. nikkas weren't out there bumping Hot Spot.

This in turn is what made Broken Silence so dope, because it was Foxy's return from the bushes and she was on fire. :ohlawd:
